Chapter 5 - The Dawn over Milan

Six months later.

The morning sun broke over the rolling hills of Lombardy, flooding the terrace of Villa Moretti in golden light.

The grand gardens, which had once been cold and rigidly manicured, were now filled with the sound of cheerful laughter. A small wooden playhouse stood near the rose bushes, and a tiny set of child-sized garden tools sat beside a bed of freshly planted sunflowers.

On the terrace, sitting at a long marble table set with fresh croissants, fruit, and coffee, sat Alessandro, dressed in a comfortable linen shirt and dark trousers. Gone was the icy, terrifying demeanor that had once made the twelve families tremble. In its place was the calm, settled strength of a man who had finally made peace with his past.

To his right sat I, wearing a simple, elegant ivory dress, going over the weekly estate reports with a pen in hand.

And running across the lawn, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Alessandro had given her for her fourth birthday, was Emma. She was wearing her little denim overalls, her cheeks rosy from the spring air, holding Mister Blue high above her head like a flag of victory.

"Look, Mommy! Look, Alessandro!" Emma shouted, her voice echoing brightly across the gardens. "Mister Blue is flying!"

Alessandro looked up from his morning coffee, a genuine, warm smile illuminating his sharp features.

"He flies very well, Emma!" Alessandro called back, his voice full of laughter.

He turned his gaze toward me, reaching across the table to lay his hand over mine. His thumb gently stroked the back of my hand, his ring catching the morning light.

"Is the household report complete, my love?" Alessandro asked softly.

"Almost," I smiled, looking into his dark, loving eyes. "Though the head gardener complained that a certain four-year-old keeps planting plastic carrots in the rose beds."

Alessandro chuckled, leaning over to press a soft kiss against my lips. "I will handle the head gardener. In this house, Emma’s carrots stay."

I leaned my head against his shoulder, watching our daughter run across the sunlit grass, her laughter striking the ancient stone walls of the estate like a sweet, eternal melody.

The trauma of the past, the cruelty of Vivian Romano, and the dark shadows of the syndicate had all faded into distant memories. In their place stood a family—built not on fear or blood money, but on the quiet courage of a mother, the fierce protection of a lord, and the unwavering truth of a three-year-old girl and her little blue rabbit.
