Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Old Dons

By midnight, the underworld of New York was reshaped forever.

Don Silvio Marchetti and Don Emilio Castri were summoned to an emergency tribunal at a neutral warehouse in Queens. They arrived with forty armed men, expecting a territorial negotiation.

Instead, they walked into a room surrounded by a united coalition of every major lieutenant in New York.

Standing at the center of the room was Damiano Verrone. Sitting in a chair behind him was Elena, looking calm and strong, wearing a tailored dark suit.

Don Silvio looked around the room, his hands trembling as he realized he had been completely outmaneuvered. "Damiano... what is the meaning of this? Where is my son Lorenzo?!"

Damiano tossed Lorenzo’s signet ring onto the steel table between them.

Silvio gasped, falling back against his chair. "You... you killed him...?"

"He tried to kill my family, Silvio," Damiano stated, his voice ringing through the silent warehouse like a death knell. "And Don Emilio... your own daughter fled your house six years ago because you treated her like property to be sold to monsters."

Don Emilio Castri looked down at the floor, unable to meet his daughter's strong, steady gaze.

"Effective tonight," Damiano declared, leaning over the table, "the Marchetti family is dissolved. Their assets, territory, and business operations are transferred entirely to the Elena Rossi Trust—managed jointly by Elena and the Verrone estate."

Silvio looked up, his eyes burning with helpless rage. "You can't do this! The syndicate laws—"

"I am the law in this city now," Damiano cut him off coldly. "Leave New York by sunrise, Silvio. If you or any of your remaining men set foot in this state again, there will be nowhere on earth far enough for you to hide."

Silvio and Emilio, broken and defeated, were escorted out of the building by Verrone soldiers.

The long night of blood, fear, and secrets had finally come to an end.

Damiano turned around to look at Elena. She stood up from her chair, walking over to him. Without a word, she reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face into his chest.

Damiano held her tightly, resting his chin against her hair, feeling a deep, profound warmth wash over his heart for the first time in three years.

"It’s over, Elena," Damiano whispered softly. "You and Maya are safe."

"Thank you, Damiano," Elena sobbed gently against his chest. "For everything."
