Chapter 5 - The Reckoning at the Summit

At 9:00 AM the following morning, the grand glass atrium of the Manhattan Financial Center was packed with over five hundred journalists, investors, and television cameras.

Lady Eleanor Croft stood at the podium, dressed in mourning black lace, her face a picture of tragic elegance. Beside her stood Camille Winthrop and her father, Lord Winthrop, who had hastily aligned their media networks to back Eleanor’s narrative.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the press," Eleanor said, wiping away a fake tear into a silk handkerchief. "It brings me immense pain to address the grotesque rumors circulating today. The woman claiming to be my late stepdaughter, Vivian, is an imposter—a trained mercenary hired by the Kingsley family to stage a hostile takeover of Croft Logistics."

Camille stepped up to the microphone, her face bruised with humiliation but filled with venom. "I was personally attacked by this woman last night. She is dangerous, unstable, and—"

"And telling the absolute truth," a clear, commanding voice rang across the atrium.

The crowd of journalists gasped and parted like the Red Sea.

Walking down the center aisle was Vivian Croft. She wore an immaculate, tailored midnight-blue suit, her auburn hair flowing elegantly down her back. Beside her walked Julian Kingsley, looking formidable in a charcoal suit, accompanied by six uniformed federal agents and Sir Edmund Kingsley.

"Security! Arrest them!" Eleanor shrieked into the microphone, her composure cracking.

"The federal agents are already here, Eleanor," Vivian said calmly, stepping onto the stage. "But they aren't here for me."

Vivian pulled a sleek silver drive from her pocket and plugged it into the podium’s master media console.

Behind Eleanor, the massive 8K LED screens—meant to broadcast Croft Logistics' annual stock report—flashed with decrypted financial documents, audio recordings, and wiretransfer logs.

"Audio File: Sydney, 2022," a crisp voice echoed through the high-definition speakers throughout the atrium.

Eleanor’s own voice blasted through the sound system: “Make sure the bomb on Arthur’s boat looks like an engine malfunction. And ensure Vivian is on board. Once they’re dead, the Swiss accounts release twenty million to your offshore shell company.”

The atrium erupted into pure chaos. Camera flashes blinded the stage. Journalists screamed questions.

"That's a fabrication! An AI deepfake!" Eleanor screamed, backing away from the podium, her face ghastly pale.

"It’s an authenticated audio log recovered from your private server by Interpol two hours ago," Julian stated coldly, stepping up beside Vivian. "Along with the complete paper trail showing you funneled seventy million dollars of Croft funds into Winthrop Holdings to pay off your debts."

Lord Winthrop’s jaw dropped. He looked at Eleanor in horror, then at his daughter, Camille, who was hyperventilating as federal agents surrounded the stage.

"Eleanor Croft, Lord Winthrop, Camille Winthrop," the lead federal agent announced, stepping forward with handcuffs raised. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate fraud, and obstruction of justice."

As the handcuffs clicked around Eleanor’s wrists, she looked at Vivian with pure, unadulterated hatred. "You were supposed to be dead!"

Vivian looked down at her stepmother with calm, absolute authority. "I survived. And I took back what’s mine."

Camille sobbed hysterically as she was escorted away in front of every major television network in the world, her social standing and family fortune destroyed in a single morning.
