Chapter 3 - The Alliance and the Storm

Within two hours, the grand gates of Kingsley Hall were besieged by news vans, paparazzi, and private security teams.
Inside the private library, Julian poured two glasses of scotch, handing one to Vivian. She accepted it, sitting in a leather armchair with a composure that fascinated him. The woman he had spent months watching quietly from across rooms—the woman who served his tea with grace and silence—was a master strategist and an international heiress.
"You should have told me," Julian said softly, sitting opposite her.
"If I had told you, you would have been dragged into my war," Vivian replied, taking a sip. "My stepmother, Eleanor Croft, controls ninety percent of Croft Logistics right now. She has politicians, judges, and mercenaries on her payroll. When I survived the Sydney hit, I realized the only way to stay alive was to vanish until I had enough evidence to destroy her completely."
"And do you?" Julian asked, leaning forward. "Do you have the evidence?"
"I was three months away from finalizing it," Vivian said bitterly. "Now that Camille’s vanity put my face on every news station in the world, Eleanor knows I’m here. She will move every asset she has to eliminate me before sunrise."
"She’ll have to go through the Kingsley family first," Julian said without a second of hesitation.
Vivian looked at him, surprised. "Julian, this isn't your fight. Camille’s father is already pulling his investments from your European expansion. Your board will be in a panic by morning. You need to distance yourself from me."
Julian reached out, placing his hand firmly over hers. His touch was warm, grounding her in a way she hadn't felt in years.
"Camille was a mistake forced on me by corporate politics," Julian said, his voice thick with unyielding conviction. "Tonight, when she attacked you, my heart didn't leap because she insulted a housekeeper. It leapt because I realized I couldn't stand seeing anyone try to hurt you. I don't care about the board, Vivian. I care about you."
Before Vivian could respond, the library's high-tech security panel flashed red. A sharp, rhythmic blare echoed through the house.
Sir Edmund walked in, accompanied by James, who was rapidly typing on a laptop.
"Four unflagged armored vehicles just breached the outer perimeter gate," James announced, his voice tense. "They jammed the local law enforcement frequencies. They're private military contractors."
"Eleanor’s strike team," Vivian said calmly, her training instantly taking over. She stood up, her entire demeanor transforming from a guarded heiress into a lethal commander. "They aren't here to negotiate. They're here to clean up the witness."
"Sir Edmund, get to the secure panic room downstairs with James," Julian ordered, pulling a concealed firearm from his desk drawer—a precaution his family had kept for decades.
"I’m staying with you," Julian told Vivian.

Vivian looked at Julian, a small, genuine smile gracing her lips for the first time all evening. "Hope you can shoot as well as you run a boardroom, Kingsley."
"Try me, Heiress."
