Chapter 10 - The Gala of LightOne year later.

The Grand Ballroom of the newly opened Reed Accessible Horizons Resort in London was a masterpiece of architectural brilliance and inclusive design. The room was illuminated by soft, stunning light installations that vibrated gently to the rhythm of live orchestral music, allowing deaf guests to physically feel the beats of the symphony through the state-of-the-art sensory floors. Hundreds of high-society guests, international diplomats, deaf community leaders, and journalists filled the magnificent hall.
At the center of it all stood Daniel Reed, looking exceptionally handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. Beside him was Arya, stunning in an emerald green silk gown that accentuated her graceful beauty.
On their wrists, both Oliver and Sophie wore matching formal outfits, running around the child-friendly sensory play area of the ballroom, laughing and signing fluidly with dozens of other deaf children who had been invited to the grand opening.
The microphone chimed softly, drawing the room’s attention to the main stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the master of ceremonies announced. "Please welcome the Chairman and CEO of Reed Global, Mr. Daniel Reed, and the Director of Inclusive Education, Miss Arya Santos."
The crowd erupted into enthusiastic applause.
Daniel and Arya walked onto the stage hand in hand. As they reached the podium, Daniel adjusted the microphone, then did something that surprised the entire international media presence in the room.
He didn't speak into the microphone.
Instead, Daniel looked out at the audience and began to deliver his entire key address in perfect, fluid British Sign Language. Beside him, an interpreter translated his hands for the hearing audience through the speakers.
Welcome to a new era, Daniel signed, his face radiating warmth, confidence, and pride. One year ago, I was a man who had everything in terms of money, but nothing in terms of true connection. I was deaf to the feelings of my own children. But tonight, we celebrate a world where no voice is ignored, and no hand is silenced.
The room erupted in silent applause—hundreds of hearing and deaf guests raising both hands in the air and waving their palms, creating a sea of visual celebration.
Daniel turned to Arya, holding out his hand. She stepped up beside him, taking the microphone.
"Tonight is also special for another reason," Arya said into the microphone, her eyes shining as she looked down at Oliver and Sophie, who were standing at the front of the stage, watching intently.
Arya looked at Daniel, her heart overflowing with love.
"One year ago, I walked into a restaurant as a waitress who felt completely invisible," Arya spoke softly, her hands simultaneously signing every word for the twins. "I thought my heart had closed forever when my brother died. But love doesn't speak through ears or vocal cords. Love speaks through action, through patience, and through grace."
Daniel slowly dropped onto one knee on the stage.
The entire ballroom gasped. Camera flashes began going off like a thunderstorm.
From his tuxedo pocket, Daniel pulled out a velvet box, opening it to reveal a breath-taking ring featuring a rare emerald surrounded by flawless diamonds.
Oliver and Sophie ran onto the stage, squealing with excitement, standing on either side of their father.
Daniel raised his free hand and signed to Arya, his eyes shining with deep, eternal devotion: Will... you... marry... me... and... be... our... family... forever?
Sophie signed frantically to Arya: Say yes! Say yes!
Oliver lifted a tiny sign he had secretly painted earlier that night: PLEASE SAY YES ARYA!
The entire crowd laughed warmly, holding their breath in anticipation.
Arya wept tears of pure, unadulterated joy. She dropped down onto her knees in front of Daniel, wrapping her arms around his neck and pressing her lips to his.

"Yes!" Arya cried out against his lips. "Yes, a thousand times yes!"
Daniel slid the ring onto her finger, lifting her up into his arms and spinning her around on the stage as the entire ballroom erupted into a thunderous ovation. Oliver and Sophie threw themselves against their parents' legs, hugging them tightly.
