Chapter 6 - THE NEW EMPIRE

One Year Later.
The summer breeze swept across the lush green lawns of the Moretti seaside estate in the Hamptons, carrying the sweet, salty scent of the Atlantic Ocean.
The estate was filled with laughter, vibrant music, and the joyful sounds of children playing.
On the marble terrace overlooking the ocean, a grand celebration was under way. Dozens of high-profile guests—shipping magnates, international diplomats, and respected community leaders—mingled under elegant white silk canopy tents decorated with white roses and jasmine.
Standing near the terrace railing, wearing a pristine navy suit, was Dominic Moretti.
Over the past year, the Moretti empire had undergone a massive, unprecedented transformation. Under Dominic's firm, brilliant leadership, the family had completely transitioned away from street-level operations, converting their vast wealth into legitimate international shipping networks, global charitable foundations, and medical research grants—including a fifty-million-dollar cancer research wing named the Margaret Carter Memorial Institute.
"Looking serious as usual, Boss," Marcus smiled, stepping up beside him with two glasses of vintage champagne.
Dominic accepted a glass, a faint smile touching his lips. "I told you not to call me 'Boss' at my daughter's birthday party, Marcus."
"Old habits die hard, sir," Marcus chuckled.
Across the lawn, four-year-old Lily was running through the grass in a bright yellow sundress, giggling wildly as her grandfather, Henry Carter—now looking healthy, relaxed, and wearing a handsome linen suit—chased her with a plush rabbit under his arm. Henry had spent the last six months living in the estate's guest house, finally retired from the farm, spending every day with his granddaughter.
And walking across the terrace toward Dominic was Sophia.
She was breathtaking. She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that swept the floor, her dark hair pinned up with fresh jasmine blossoms, her skin glowing with happiness and health. In her arms, she held a four-month-old baby boy with tufts of dark hair and striking blue-gray eyes—little Leo Moretti.
Dominic walked forward to meet her, stepping into her path and wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her gently against his side. He leaned down, kissing her temple, then gently touching the nose of his sleeping infant son.
"Is the birthday girl exhausted yet?" Dominic asked softly, his voice full of warmth.
"Not even close," Sophia laughed, looking out at Lily jumping into Henry's arms. "Her grandfather gave her three slices of cake when I wasn't looking."
Dominic chuckled, looking down into his wife's eyes—the same eyes that had once looked at him with fear in the kitchen of his Manhattan estate.
"What are you thinking about?" Sophia asked softly, reaching up to gently touch his cheek.
"I was thinking about a three-year-old girl who walked into my foyer with a stuffed rabbit and a crayon drawing," Dominic said, his gaze softening into pure, unadulterated love. "And how she completely destroyed my world... and gave me a life."
Sophia smiled, leaning up on her tiptoes to press a soft, sweet kiss to his lips. "She didn't destroy your world, Dominic. She just showed you where you belonged."
Dominic looked out over the ocean, holding his wife and son close to his heart, watching his daughter laugh in the sunlight.
