Chapter 5 - The ReckoningThe courtroom erupted into absolute chaos.
"WHAT?!" Dominic shrieked, turning on Natalie with wild, bloodshot eyes. "You lying snake! You told me it was mine!"
"Dominic, let me explain!" Natalie cried out, recoiling as reporters snapped photos endlessly through the glass partition. "Richard offered me money! You were losing everything anyway!"
"ORDER! ORDER IN THIS COURT!" Judge Ellison pounded her gavel furiously until silence was restored. She glared down at Dominic with utter contempt.
"Mr. Vance," Judge Ellison said, her voice dripping with venom. "I have seen many despicable individuals in this courtroom, but your conduct is uniquely repulsive. You abandoned your critically ill newborn twins, embezzled millions from your wife while she was unconscious, and attempted to use this court to extort a family you tried to ruin."
Judge Ellison didn't even hesitate. She grabbed her pen and signed a stack of decrees with heavy, decisive strokes.
"I am issuing an immediate, permanent protection order against Dominic Vance on behalf of Audrey Sterling and the children, Liam and Chloe. Full legal and physical custody is granted exclusively to Audrey Sterling. Mr. Vance’s parental rights are permanently terminated."
Dominic fell back into his leather chair like a corpse.
"Additionally," Judge Ellison continued, "I am freezing all personal and corporate assets belonging to Dominic Vance and Apex Medical Supplies. The bail posted for Mr. Vance is revoked due to flight risk and ongoing criminal fraud investigations."
Two state troopers immediately flanked Dominic, seizing his shoulders and hauling him to his feet.
"Audrey! Please!" Dominic sobbed, tears rolling down his pale face as he looked at me across the aisle. "I was tricked! Natalie lied to me! My uncle set me up! I still love you, Audrey! Think of what we had!"
I stood up slowly, looking him straight in the eyes. The love, hurt, and self-doubt I had once felt for him were completely gone. In their place was only an unshakeable, tranquil strength.
"I spent three years loving a man who didn't exist," I said softly. "You built your life on lies, Dominic. Now you get to live in the reality you created."
As the officers dragged Dominic out of the courtroom in heavy iron chains, the entire gallery broke into applause.
