Chapter 6 - A PROMISE IN SILVER

One year later.
The grand hall of the Moretti estate was filled with brilliant sunshine streaming through the multi-story crystal windows. Fresh white roses and gold silk runners decorated the wide marble staircase, filling the air with a sweet, luxurious scent.
Music echoed gently from a string quartet positioned in the conservatory.
Over two hundred guests—family members, high-ranking associates, state officials, and close friends—stood along the black and white marble floor, their faces filled with smiles and admiration.
At the altar positioned beneath the massive portrait of Enzo Moretti stood Dominic.
He wore a bespoke black tuxedo, his posture commanding and proud. Beside him stood his underboss, Vincent, who served as his best man. But Dominic’s eyes were fixed entirely on the top of the grand staircase.
The music shifted into a majestic, sweeping processional.
Walking slowly down the wide marble steps was five-year-old Lily. She looked like a little princess in a floor-length white lace dress, a small crown of white roses resting on her blonde hair. In her hands, instead of her old stuffed rabbit, she carefully carried a small velvet ring pillow. She walked with supreme confidence, her small shoes clicking lightly against the marble, grinning brightly at Dominic as she reached the bottom of the stairs.
And then, at the top of the landing, appeared Elena.
A collective gasp swept through the great hall.
She looked breathtaking. Her gown was a masterpiece of French silk and delicate ivory lace, trailing gracefully behind her as she stepped down the stairs. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updo, secured with a diamond tiara. But it was the radiant, boundless joy in her eyes that captivated everyone in the room.
As she reached the altar, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hand in his. His grip was warm, strong, and steady.
"You look stunning," Dominic whispered softly, his dark eyes filled with absolute devotion.
"I love you," Elena whispered back, her voice full of emotion.
The officiant stepped forward, his voice echoing through the quiet hall as he conducted the sacred ceremony. Vows of love, protection, and eternal loyalty were exchanged—vows backed not by words alone, but by a year of proven devotion and fierce protection.
"By the power vested in me," the officiant concluded with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dominic, you may kiss your bride."
Dominic wrapped his arms around Elena, pulling her close and kissing her with a passion that brought cheers and applause echoing all the way up to the crystal chandeliers.
When they pulled back, smiling brightly at each other, Dominic dropped down onto one knee in front of Lily, who was standing beside them with a huge grin on her face.
Dominic reached into his vest pocket and pulled out his grandfather Enzo’s silver pocket watch. He held it out in his palm, letting the sunlight reflect off its polished surface.
"Lily," Dominic said softly, his voice echoing clearly for everyone to hear. "This watch has belonged to the head of the Moretti family for four generations. It represents time, honor, and protecting the people you love."
He gently pressed the silver watch into her small hands, closing her tiny fingers over it.
"From this day on," Dominic whispered, looking up into her bright hazel eyes, "this watch belongs to you. To remind you that no matter how big you grow, or where you go in this world... you will always be my daughter, and you will always have a home here."
Lily looked at the heavy silver watch in her hands, then threw her arms around Dominic’s neck, hugging him tightly.
"I love you, Daddy," she whispered into his ear.

Dominic closed his eyes, holding her tight against his chest, feeling a profound, complete peace settle over his soul.
He stood up, holding Lily in one arm, and reached out his hand to pull Elena close against his side. Together, the three of them turned to face the cheering room—a family forged through courage, proven by loyalty, and bound forever by love.
