Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM SNARE

The forty-second floor of the Moretti Tower in Midtown Manhattan commanded a breathtaking view of the snow-covered skyline. Inside the main executive boardroom, thirty high-ranking syndicate members, corporate attorneys, and capos sat around a thirty-foot conference table made of polished black granite.

At the head of the table sat Julian Thorne.

His silver hair was impeccably groomed, his tailored gray suit fitted to perfection, and a large diamond ring on his right hand caught the bright morning sunlight. He was chatting comfortably with Vincent Moretti, Dominic’s underboss, reviewing a stack of financial documents.

"Dominic is late again," Julian observed smoothly, checking his gold wristwatch. "That's unlike him. Two days in a row."

Vincent, a broad-shouldered man with a scarred jaw, chewed on an unlit cigar. "Dominic handles his business, Julian. Don't worry about his clock."

"Of course, of course," Julian smiled, leaning back in his leather chair. "I merely wanted to wrap up the Harbor Logistics audit. As you know, we have several dormant share transfers to process today to secure our dock leases for the upcoming quarter."

"Dormant share transfers?" a deep, booming voice echoed from the heavy mahogany double doors at the end of the room.

The entire boardroom fell dead silent.

The doors swung wide open. Dominic Moretti stepped into the room.

He looked immaculate—dressed in a three-piece charcoal suit, his coat draped over his arm, his dark eyes sweeping over the room like a predator entering its hunting ground.

But it was not Dominic’s presence alone that sent a shockwave through the room.

Walking directly beside him, her small hand held firmly in Dominic’s large palm, was five-year-old Lily Vance. She was wearing a sweet new dark blue winter dress, her hair neatly combed, holding her worn stuffed rabbit against her side.

And walking right behind them, flanked by Marcus and four heavily armed elite security guards, was Elena Vance. She carried a sleek black leather portfolio under her arm, her chin held high, her eyes fixed directly on Julian Thorne.

Julian’s face went instantly, ghost-like white. The silver pen in his hand slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against the glass tabletop.

"Dominic..." Julian stammered, his smooth composure instantly shattering into violent panic. "What... what is the meaning of this? Why are there outsiders in an executive council session?"

Dominic did not answer immediately. He walked slowly down the length of the long granite table, his shoes clicking rhythmically against the floor. He guided Elena and Lily to the head of the table, pulling out the massive leather executive chair directly to his right and gesturing for Elena to sit down.

Lily stood proudly beside her mother's chair, resting her hands on the armrest, her hazel eyes staring at Julian with innocent curiosity.

Dominic remained standing, resting both hands flat on the granite table, leaning in toward Julian.

"Gentlemen," Dominic spoke, his voice carrying an effortless authority that anchored every man in the room to their seat. "Before we begin the financial audit, I would like to introduce our newest majority partner in the Moretti Harbor Logistics Corporation."

A loud murmur erupted across the table. Capos exchanged frantic, confused glances.

"Dominic, this is absurd!" Julian shouted, standing up so fast his chair rolled back against the glass window. "She is a low-level archive employee who was terminated three days ago for security violations! She has no standing here!"

"Is that so, Julian?" Dominic asked softly, his tone dangerously pleasant. "Tell me... who authorized her termination?"

"You did!" Julian insisted, pointing a shaking finger at Dominic. "You signed the digital clearance release on Tuesday morning! I personally executed the order!"

Dominic slowly reached into his inner jacket pocket. He didn't pull out a gun; he pulled out a sleek silver flash drive and tossed it onto the center of the table.

"Marcus," Dominic commanded. "Put it on the main screens."

Marcus immediately plugged a control tablet into the room’s audiovisual system. The six eighty-inch high-definition monitors lining the boardroom walls flickered to life.

Instantly, raw system access logs filled the screens. Red highlighting highlighted a specific IP address—Julian Thorne’s private home office terminal in East Hampton—accessing Dominic’s private digital signature key at 3:14 AM on Monday night.

"That is a forgery!" Julian yelled, sweat breaking out across his forehead.

"There is more," Elena spoke up. Her voice was clear, firm, and echoed through the silent boardroom with absolute confidence.

She opened her leather portfolio, pulling out a set of yellowed, historical documents sealed in clear protective acrylic casings.

"This is the original 1948 Harbor Logistics Covenant signed by Enzo Moretti and Senator Arthur Vance," Elena stated, sliding the acrylic cases down the table toward Vincent Moretti. "Julian Thorne attempted to steal these documents from the vault three days ago. He forged a share surrender form using my stolen digital credentials, attempting to transfer fifty percent of the dock assets into a private shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands under his own son's name."

Vincent picked up the documents, his sharp eyes scanning the faded ink signatures. His scarred face hardened into pure, murderous fury as he realized the depth of the betrayal.

Vincent looked up at Julian, his hand sliding under his suit jacket toward his holster. "You tried to steal the docks from the family, Julian?"

"It's a lie! She's framing me!" Julian screamed, backing away toward the corner of the room. "Dominic, listen to me! I built your financial network! You can't trust this woman!"

Dominic walked slowly around the table, stopping three feet away from Julian. He reached out and gently plucked the silver pen from the table, twirling it between his long fingers.

"You used my digital key, Julian," Dominic murmured, his voice so low only Julian could hear the terrifying edge in it. "You tried to steal half my empire. But worst of all... you walked into this woman's home, threatened her five-year-old child, and told her that I ordered her life destroyed."

Julian dropped to his knees, his hands clasped together in desperate plea. "Dominic... please! We've known each other for twenty years! I made a mistake! I'll transfer everything back! Just let me walk away!"

Dominic looked down at him with absolute disdain. He turned his head toward Vincent and Marcus.

"Take him downstairs," Dominic ordered quietly. "Strip him of every asset, every account, and every property carrying the Thorne name. Hand him over to the federal prosecutors along with the Cayman shell records. Let him spend the next thirty years in a federal penitentiary thinking about how he managed his accounts."

Four armed security guards stepped forward, grabbing Julian by his arms and dragging him out of the boardroom, his desperate screams fading down the long carpeted hallway.

Silence returned to the forty-second floor.

Dominic walked back to the head of the table. He stood beside Elena’s chair, placing his broad hand gently on the high leather back. He looked around the room at the thirty stunned capos and executives.

"Effective immediately," Dominic announced, his voice echoing with absolute finality, "Elena Vance is reinstated as Head of Archival Oversight. Furthermore, as the legal heir to the Vance covenant, her fifty percent stake in Harbor Logistics is fully recognized by the Moretti family council under my direct personal protection."

No one argued. No one dared to raise a voice.

Dominic looked down at Lily, who was looking up at him with her wide, hazel eyes. A soft, tiny smile broke across her small face as she held up her stuffed rabbit.

"Did you fix it, mister?" Lily whispered softly.

May you like

Dominic dropped to one knee right there in the executive boardroom, looking into her innocent face.

"Yes, Lily," Dominic said, a genuine, warm smile breaking through his stern features. "I fixed it."
