Chapter 5 - The Verdict of the Board

The morning of the final board meeting arrived, clear and crisp after the storm. The grand conference hall of the New York Maritime Exchange was filled with the city's wealthiest power brokers.

Julian Vale was brought in from federal custody in handcuffs, accompanied by his legal team, attempting a desperate, last-ditch effort to claim the company shares by arguing that Alexander’s sudden involvement in a violent criminal investigation proved he was creating a hostile corporate environment.

"The bylaws are clear!" Julian’s lawyer argued to the board. "Alexander Vale has brought scandal, explosions, and gunfire to the Vale name. He has no legitimate heir registered under corporate discovery, and his thirty-fifth birthday is today. The shares must revert to Julian’s trust!"

The board chairman looked at his watch. "Mr. Alexander Vale has five minutes to present his defense, or the transfer will proceed."

The heavy double doors of the Maritime Exchange swung open.

Alexander walked down the center aisle, his posture towering, his expression radiating an absolute, undisputed triumph. But he wasn't alone.

Walking beside him, holding his hand tightly, was Lily. She was wearing a beautiful new navy blue coat, her purple backpack neatly zipped, and her bright green eyes scanning the room without a single shred of fear. Camila walked right behind them, elegant and composed.

"You're too late, Julian," Alexander’s voice echoed like thunder through the hall.

He walked to the chairman's podium and placed three documents onto the table. "The official DNA certification from the State Forensic Institute. The updated birth registration. And the corporate declaration of succession."

Julian stood up, his chains rattling furiously. "This is a farce! She’s a child! She can't hold voting rights!"

"She doesn't need to hold them, Julian," the board chairman announced, reviewing the pristine, legally binding documents. "Alexander has established his legitimate heir before the deadline. According to the true will of Senior Alexander Vale, the empire remains entirely under the control of the primary line."

The board members stood up one by one, erupting into a roaring applause. Julian collapsed back into his seat, his face twisted in ultimate defeat, realizing his decades of plotting had been utterly annihilated by a six-year-old girl in red rain boots.

Alexander looked down at Lily, who was smiling up at him. He reached down and picked her up, holding her high in front of the entire assembly.

"You did it, Dad," Lily whispered into his ear, using the word for the very first time.

Alexander’s eyes filled with unexpected, overwhelming tears as he hugged her tight. "No, Lily. We did it."
