Chapter 3 - The Broken Alliance

By the next morning, the financial media was in an uproar. Rumors of a security breach at L’Aria involving Alexander Vale were circulating, but the true bomb—the existence of Lily Reyes-Vale—was still fiercely guarded by Alexander’s legal and tactical teams.
Inside the glass-walled conference room of Vale Enterprises, Alexander stood at the head of the table. Julian Vale sat opposite him, looking perfectly relaxed, sipping an espresso. Behind Julian stood Victoria Sterling, the corrupt district councilwoman who controlled the zoning laws for New York’s shipping ports.
"Alexander, you look tired," Julian smiled smoothly, adjusting his diamond cufflinks. "I heard there was a little... incident at your favorite restaurant yesterday. You really should invest in better security. Or perhaps, step down and let someone else handle the stress of the family business."
Alexander didn't answer immediately. He walked to the projector control, clicking a button.
The giant monitors on the wall didn't show financial reports. They displayed a series of encrypted bank transfers from Julian’s offshore accounts to a private military contractor based out of Eastern Europe—the same contractor linked to the thermite charge at the restaurant.
Julian’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, then hardened. "What is this fabrication?"
"I don't play games with corporate thieves, Julian," Alexander said, his voice vibrating with an immense, terrifying power. "Seven years ago, you forged a severance agreement to drive Camila out of the city. You stole my letters. You manufactured a lie that cost me seven years of my daughter's life."
Julian let out a sharp, mocking laugh, leaning back in his chair. "Your daughter? You mean that little stray in the red boots? Please, Alexander. A DNA test hasn't even been filed. And even if she is yours, what makes you think she’ll survive long enough to see the board meeting next week? New York is a dangerous place for unprotected children."
Before Julian could even register the movement, Alexander lunged across the massive glass table. His hand clamped around Julian’s throat, lifting him completely out of his chair, slamming him against the reinforced glass window overlooking the city.
"Alexander! Stop! You're crazy!" Councilwoman Sterling shrieked, backing away.
"Listen to me, you piece of garbage," Alexander hissed into Julian’s terrified face, his grip tightening until Julian’s eyes began to bloodshoot. "If you so much as look in the direction of my daughter again, the police won't find enough of you to put in a cell. I am terminating your contract with Vale Shipping today. You are stripped of your shares, your title, and your name. You are nothing."
Alexander flung him onto the floor. Julian coughed violently, clutching his neck, his eyes filled with a venomous, desperate hatred.
"You think you’ve won, big brother?" Julian choked out, looking up from the floor. "Victoria and I control the port entry permits. Without her signature, your ships can't unload a single container next month. You’ll be bankrupt before the board vote even happens."

"She won't be signing anything, Julian," a fresh voice announced from the doorway.
Arthur Vance, the prestigious federal prosecutor and longtime ally of the Vale family, stepped into the room, flanked by four FBI agents. "Councilwoman Sterling, Julian Vale... you are under arrest for federal extortion, corporate espionage, and conspiracy to commit domestic terrorism."
