Chapter 6 — The True Toast

An hour later, the gala was back in full swing. The music was bright, the champagne flowed, and the energy in the ballroom was completely electric, transformed by the powerful display of justice everyone had just witnessed.

Maya sat at the center of the head table. She had removed her kitchen cap, her golden hair now falling in soft, elegant waves around her shoulders. She wore no expensive designer gown—just her simple navy dress, but at her throat sat the stunning diamond necklace Ethan had given her for their anniversary, sparkling brilliantly under the crystal chandeliers.

Ethan stood beside her, lifting his crystal flute high into the air as he looked out at the six hundred guests.

"Tonight, we raised over three million dollars for the Children’s Fund," Ethan announced into the microphone, his voice filled with a deep, resonant pride. "But the greatest lesson of this evening didn't come from a speech or a donation ledger. It came from a kitchen floor."

He looked down at Maya, his eyes filled with an absolute, unwavering adoration.

"It came from a woman who reminded us that dignity isn't a costume you wear to a gala," Ethan said, raising his glass higher. "It’s the way you treat people when you think no one is watching. To my wife, Maya—the true heart of the Hartwell legacy."

The entire ballroom rose to their feet, a thunderous, standing ovation echoing through the grand hall. Maya stood up beside her husband, her hand locking into his, looking out at the smiling faces.

The broken porcelain was gone, the bullies had been cleared away, and as she looked into Ethan’s eyes, Maya knew that the truth had finally won. The empire was safe, not because it was wealthy, but because it was honorable.
