Chapter 6 - The Boundary Wall
When Oliver recovered and returned home, Jonathan was a changed man. The rigid schedules were torn down.
However, external pressure mounted. Jonathan’s wealthy peers and colleagues openly criticized his newfound leniency. During a charity dinner at the Hale home, Jonathan’s business partner, Richard, looked out into the yard where Leo and Oliver were rolling in the autumn leaves.
“Is it wise, Jonathan?” Richard asked, sipping his wine. “Exposing him to… lower standards? He needs top-tier medical care, not street play. You’re indulging him.”
Jonathan looked at Richard, then looked out the window. He saw Oliver, sitting unassisted on the grass, reaching up with both arms to catch a falling leaf—a feat of balance his physical therapists had declared impossible six months ago.

“He’s not being indulged, Richard,” Jonathan said coldly, stepping away from the executive circle. “He’s being healed.”
Jonathan walked out of the formal party, tore off his suit jacket, tossed it onto the porch chair, and walked out into the damp grass to sit right down in the dirt with the two boys.
