Chapter 5 - The Inheritance Revealed

Six Months Later.
The air was crisp and fresh as I walked across the campus of the university I had dreamed of attending since I was a child. I wore a simple leather jacket, my arm completely healed, my posture straight and proud. The shadows under my eyes were entirely gone, replaced by the bright, unyielding spark of a young woman who had finally reclaimed her life.
My father’s cloud account hadn't just contained the evidence that set me free. Once the legal dust had settled, the executor of my father’s true estate revealed a hidden clause in his will.
The "small family trust" my mother had tried to seize years ago had been legally locked in an offshore educational and personal development fund, accessible only when my mother’s legal guardianship was terminated or when I turned eighteen.
It wasn't twenty thousand dollars. It was a multi-million-dollar tech portfolio that my father had secured before his passing, completely insulated from Thomas’s greed.
A sleek silver sedan pulled up to the curb beside the campus library. Dr. Alexander Reed stepped out, holding two cups of coffee, a warm, paternal smile on his face. He had become my legal guardian for the final months of my minority, providing the safe, peaceful home I had always been denied.
"How was the advanced computing seminar, Maya?" he asked, handing me a cup.
"It was perfect, Alex," I smiled, taking a warm sip. "The professor said my data encryption models are years ahead of the curriculum."
"Of course they are," he laughed, looking at me with immense pride. "You learned from the best."

We looked out over the sprawling green lawn of the university, where students were laughing, studying, and living without fear. Thomas and my mother were currently serving consecutive fifteen-year sentences in a maximum-security facility, their names erased from the society they had tried so hard to conquer.
They had thought that by locking me in a cage and breaking my bones, they could make me small. They never realized that the quiet girl in the corner wasn't just surviving—she was calculating. The prison doors had been smashed wide open, the chains were gone, and the story of my life from this moment on belonged entirely, beautifully, to me.
