Chapter 5 - The Renaissance

Three months later.
The spring sun warmed the stone courtyards of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The jacaranda trees were in full bloom, casting vibrant purple petals across the wide plazas.
Inside the grand Auditorium of the Rectorate, a formal ceremony was underway.
Sitting in the front row was Don Aurelio Herrera, looking grand and proud, beside Clara and a group of distinguished international scholars.
On stage, the Rector of the University presented Selena with a gold-embossed leather diploma and the silver medal of academic excellence.
"For exceptional original research, revolutionary archival methodology, and unmatched personal fortitude," the Rector announced into the microphone, "we officially confer upon Selena Herrera the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Historical Sociology."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.
Dr. Selena Herrera stepped up to the podium. She wore a stunning black academic gown with velvet purple stripes down the sleeves. Her dark hair had grown slightly, styled in an effortlessly chic, razor-sharp cut that made her look like a high-fashion icon as much as a world-class academic.
She looked out at the hundreds of faces in the audience—students, young women, professors, and reporters.
"Three months ago," Selena began, her voice ringing clear and melodious through the hall, "someone tried to tell me that a woman’s place was defined by submission. They thought that by cutting my hair, they could cut away my mind, my voice, and my future."
She raised her head high.
"They did not understand that hair grows back. But a woman’s freedom, once claimed, can never be taken away. To every young woman sitting in this room who has been told to make herself smaller so that a fragile man can feel big: do not break your wings to fit into their tiny cages. Build a sky of your own."
The standing ovation lasted for five full minutes.
After the ceremony, Selena walked out into the sunlit plaza, where reporters rushed toward her with cameras and microphones.
"Dr. Herrera! Dr. Herrera! What are your plans now?" a reporter from El Universal asked. "Will you be taking over your father’s conglomerate?"
Selena smiled warmly, slipping her arm through her father's arm as Don Aurelio walked beside her.
"Herrera Agronomics is in excellent hands with my father," Selena replied gracefully. "Next month, I move to England. I have accepted a tenured Assistant Professorship and Senior Research Fellowship at Oxford University."
The reporters gasped in awe.

"And what about the legal proceedings against Héctor Luján?" another reporter chimed in.
"The law has taken its course," Selena answered calmly, her face serene and unbothered. "I do not look behind me when I am walking forward."
