Chapter 8 - The Final Confession"Wait."

Dominic’s calm, authoritative voice cut through the tense air of the boardroom. Mara froze, her finger hovering over the trigger, her chest heaving as she glared sideways at the syndicate boss.
"Why?" Mara demanded, her voice shaking with rage. "He deserves to die right here, right now."
"He does," Dominic agreed smoothly, stepping closer to the cowering CEO. He reached down, grabbed Sterling by the expensive silk tie, and hauled him upright onto his knees. "And he will die. But a quick bullet to the head is too merciful for a traitor who compromised my shipping routes, leaked my syndicate's security protocols, and dared target my son."
Sterling gasped for air, his eyes wide with terror as he looked between Dominic and Mara. "What... what do you want? Money? Shares? I can give you everything—"
"You already gave us everything the moment you signed that hit order," Dominic whispered, his slate-gray eyes turning glacial. He pulled a small, secure recording device from his tactical vest and tapped the screen. "Confess to the conspiracy. Detail every offshore account, every board member involved, and every bribe paid to federal officials. Recite it clearly for the global syndicate ledger."
Sterling stared at the device, then looked at Mara’s cold, unblinking barrel pointed directly at his chest. He knew there was no escape. Either he confessed and faced a slow, calculated trial by the underworld, or he died in this room in the next three seconds.
With a broken sob, Sterling began to talk.
For ten agonizing minutes, the CEO spilled every dark secret of the corporate conspiracy—naming corrupt politicians, international money launderers, and rogue syndicate associates who had participated in the destruction of Vance Pharma eight years ago and the recent attack on Blackthorne House.
Dominic recorded every single word, his finger sliding the encrypted file directly to his global intelligence server for immediate dissemination across every major crime syndicate and federal agency on the East Coast.
"There," Dominic said, pocketing the device. "The entire board is exposed. They have nowhere left to run, and no one left to bribe."
Mara kept her pistol leveled at Sterling’s chest. The man whimpered, tears streaming down his aging face.
"You promised," Sterling choked out. "You said a quick bullet..."
"I said a quick bullet was too merciful," Dominic replied smoothly. He stepped back and nodded toward Vance. "Take him to the basement holding cells. Let the rest of the board join him. Let them spend the rest of their natural lives wondering when the axe is going to fall."
Vance and the enforcers dragged the screaming CEO out of the room, leaving Mara standing alone with Dominic under the glaring lights of the boardroom.
Mara slowly lowered her pistol, letting out a long, shuddering breath that seemed to expel eight years of accumulated grief, terror, and relentless survival. Her shoulders slumped slightly, the raw adrenaline finally beginning to fade, leaving behind the dull ache of her healing bullet wounds.
Dominic watched her quietly. He stepped closer, gently reaching out to take the firearm from her trembling hand and sliding it back into her holster.
"It's over," Dominic said softly, his deep voice wrapping around her like a shield. "Your family's honor has been restored. And the people responsible will pay for every single day you spent running."
Mara looked up into his pale gray eyes, seeing a depth of genuine warmth and fierce loyalty that she never knew existed beneath the cold exterior of the syndicate boss.

"Thank you, Dominic," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.
"You took three bullets for my son, Elena," Dominic replied, his gaze locked onto hers with absolute intensity. "A debt like that can never be repaid. But... I intend to spend the rest of my life trying."
