Chapter 6 - Rebuilding the Castle

Three months later, the sun rose over the Mediterranean, casting a warm, golden glow across the terrace of the Moretti estate. The air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine and citrus.
The war with Victor Volkov had been short and decisive. With the evidence Enzo had gathered, Alessandro had not only exposed Volkov’s illegal shipping operations to the Italian authorities but had also dismantled the Russian’s network in Sicily. Volkov was currently hiding in a non-extradition country, his empire in ruins, his name a warning to anyone else who thought they could play games with the Moretti family.
As for Marco, he had been stripped of his title, his assets seized to pay off the family's debts, and he was quietly exiled to a remote location under constant surveillance. He would live, but he would never see Sicily, or power, again.
On the terrace, a small wooden table had been set up.
Emma, now wearing a bright yellow sundress, was busy stacking a new set of building blocks—this time made of polished olive wood, a gift from Alessandro.
"Look, Uncle Alessandro!" she giggled, pointing to a towering structure that was surprisingly stable. "It's a real castle now. No bullets!"
Alessandro, sitting at the main table sipping his morning espresso, smiled warmly. "An excellent castle, Emma. Very strong."
Elena walked out of the double doors, carrying a tray of fresh pastries and fruit. She looked radiant. The bruise on her face was long gone, replaced by a healthy, glowing complexion. She wore a simple, elegant white linen dress, and her eyes sparkled as she looked at her daughter, and then at Alessandro.
She set the tray down and poured Alessandro another cup of coffee. "You’re spoiling her, you know," she said with a soft laugh. "She thinks she owns the terrace now."
"She does," Alessandro said, his voice warm. He reached out and caught Elena’s hand as she set the coffee pot down.
She didn't pull away.
Over the last three months, the professional boundaries between them had slowly and naturally dissolved. They had shared quiet dinners, walked through the olive groves, and built a bond that was no longer based on the past, but on the future.
"Elena," Alessandro said, his tone turning serious but incredibly gentle. "I spent my whole life defending this estate, thinking it was my castle. But it was just a cold, stone house."
He stood up, still holding her hand, and looked into her deep, dark eyes.
"You and Emma... you brought life into this place. You made it a home. I don't ever want to run this family alone again."
Elena's breath hitched, her eyes shimmering with happy tears. "Alessandro... are you saying...?"
Alessandro reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He opened it to reveal a stunning, delicate gold ring, set with a flawless, brilliant diamond, flanked by two tiny, beautifully carved wolf heads.
"I want you to be my wife, Elena. I want to protect you, cherish you, and build a real family with you. For the rest of our lives."
Elena looked from the ring to Alessandro's face, seeing the fierce, unwavering love and devotion in his eyes.
"Yes," she whispered, her voice overflowing with emotion. "A thousand times, yes."
Emma clapped her hands, abandoning her wooden blocks to run over and hug both of them around their waists. "Does this mean we get to stay in the castle forever?" she asked, looking up with wide, hopeful eyes.

Alessandro picked her up in one arm, pulling Elena close with the other, kissing her forehead as the warm Sicilian sun washed over them.
"Yes, my sweet girl," Alessandro smiled. "We are staying in our castle forever."
