Chapter 10 - The Laughter of Home

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the Long Island estate, casting a warm golden glow across the lush green lawns and the sparkling blue waters of the coastal shoreline.

The heavy, dark curtains in the grand mansion were gone, replaced by light white linens that fluttered gently in the sea breeze. The terrifying, silent atmosphere that had once defined the sixty-acre estate was completely, utterly dead.

In its place was chaos—glorious, messy, beautiful chaos.

In the center of the sunny garden, Lucia, Valentina, and Mia were chasing a clumsy, golden retriever puppy across the grass, their loud, musical laughter ringing out like bells under the summer sky.

“Daddy! Look! Barnaby caught the ball!” Mia shouted excitedly, running toward the outdoor patio in her summer dress, pointing at the puppy who was proudly dragging a red tennis ball through the flowerbeds.

“I see it, Mia!” Dominic called back with a genuine, booming laugh that echoed off the stone walls.

Dominic Russo sat at the patio table, wearing a simple linen shirt with his sleeves rolled up, completely unbothered by the grass stains on his trousers or the half-finished financial reports sitting ignored on the table beside his coffee cup.

He looked younger. The dark circles under his eyes were gone, replaced by soft lines of contentment.

A pair of gentle hands settled onto his shoulders from behind. Dominic leaned his head back, looking up into the smiling face of Elena Vasquez.

Her skin was glowing, her dark eyes filled with happiness. On her left ring finger, a brilliant diamond ring caught the afternoon sunlight—a symbol of a promise made not out of obligation or fear, but out of a deep, transformative love that had saved two broken families.

Dominic reached up, grasping her hand and pulling her around into his lap. Elena laughed softly as he wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.

“Are the girls ready for the beach?” Elena asked, running her fingers gently through his dark hair.

“Almost,” Dominic smiled, kissing her bruised cheek—now completely healed, smooth, and radiant. “Lucia is still trying to convince Barnaby to put on his life vest.”

Elena chuckled softly, watching the triplets play in the grass. “She takes her authority very seriously.”

“She gets it from her mother,” Dominic whispered softly against her ear.

Elena turned her head, looking at him with deep affection. There was no pain or jealousy in her expression when he mentioned the past—only a deep, shared respect for the journey that had brought them together.

Mateo, Elena’s brother, was now running the estate’s legitimate logistics operations on the West Coast, far away from the dangers of the mob, fully cleared of his debts and starting a fresh life under Dominic’s protection. The syndicate war was over. The boundaries were set. But more importantly, Dominic Russo was no longer a ghost running away from his own life.

Valentina came running up the patio steps, holding a brilliant purple flower she had just plucked from the garden.

“Miss Elena—I mean, Mama!” Valentina corrected herself with a bright, triumphant grin, handing the flower to Elena. “Look what I found for you!”

Elena’s heart melted. She took the purple flower and tucked it gently behind her ear, leaning down to kiss Valentina’s soft cheek.

“It’s beautiful, sweetie,” Elena whispered, her voice full of emotion. “Thank you.”

Valentina giggled, grabbed her father’s hand, and pulled on it with all her might. “Come on, Daddy! The water is warm! Mia said she’s going to build a giant castle!”

Dominic stood up, scooping Valentina into his left arm while holding Elena’s hand tightly in his right.

Together, they walked down the stone path toward the sunny beach, surrounded by the bright, unstoppable voices of his three daughters singing their favorite song at the top of their lungs.

The palace of silence was gone forever. Dominic Russo was finally home.
