Chapter 6 - The Christmas Miracle

Six months later.
Summer had arrived in upstate New York. The air was warm, filled with the scent of pine trees, fresh grass, and blooming wildflowers.
Nestled along the quiet shores of Lake George sat a beautiful, two-story wooden home with a wide front porch, a sunlit garden, and a private dock stretching out into the clear blue water.
Sitting on the grass near the edge of the water was six-year-old Noah. He wore denim overalls and a bright red cap, holding a small wooden fishing rod while sitting beside his father.
Luca sat on a plaid blanket, wearing a simple linen shirt and dark trousers. He looked younger, relaxed, his face touched by a healthy summer tan. His arm was wrapped around Elena, who sat beside him, resting her head against his shoulder.
“Dad!” Noah called out excitedly, pointing at the water. “Look! The float is bobbing! I think I caught a giant one!”
Luca laughed—a rich, happy sound that resonated across the lake. He leaned down, helping his son pull the small wooden rod back, reeling in a tiny, glittering sunfish.
“Look at that, champion!” Luca cheered, unhooking the fish gently and tossing it back into the water. “You’re officially a better fisherman than your father.”
Noah beamed with pride, throwing his arms around Luca’s neck. “Can we go on the boat now, Dad?”
“Ask your mother,” Luca smiled, winking at Elena.
Elena smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to Noah’s cheek. “Ten minutes on the boat, and then it’s time for lunch. Uncle Marco is coming over with the new books you asked for.”
“Yay!” Noah cheered, running down the wooden dock toward the small blue motorboat tied to the post.
Luca stood up, taking Elena’s hand and pulling her up beside him. He pulled her close against his side as they watched their son play safely on the dock under the warm afternoon sun.
On Elena’s ring finger sparkled a stunning, vintage diamond ring—the ring that had belonged to Luca’s mother, the only piece of jewelry he had saved when he closed the Moretti estate forever.
Around her neck, beneath her summer dress, hung the silver Saint Christopher pendant.
“Are you happy, Elena?” Luca whispered into her hair, pressing a gentle kiss against her temple.
Elena looked around at the peaceful lake, at the blue sky, at their happy, healthy son, and then up into the dark gray eyes of the man who had torn down his entire world just to build a sanctuary for her.
“I have everything I ever dreamed of, Luca,” Elena answered softly, her heart brimming with overflowing love. “We’re finally whole.”
