Chapter 9 - A NEW FOUNDATION

Six months later.
The estate had completely transformed.
The cold, rigid atmosphere that once dominated the ten-acre property was gone, replaced by the joyful sounds of children playing, fresh flowers blooming along every walkway, and staff members who worked with big smiles on their faces.
I had restructured the entire management system of Vance Enterprises and my private estate. Every worker received a fifty percent pay raise, full health benefits, and a private trust fund for their children's college education.
The laundry room—where this entire journey began—had been completely renovated into a bright, sunlit art studio for Nora and Elena.
On a warm afternoon in late May, I sat at the wooden outdoor table near the swimming pool, working on my laptop.
Elena walked out carrying a tray of lemonade and fresh peach cobbler. She looked vibrant, happy, and stunningly beautiful. Over the past six months, our relationship had grown from mutual gratitude into a deep, passionate, and unbreakable love.
"You're working too hard, Mr. Vance," Elena teased, setting a glass down beside my laptop.
"I'm the boss, remember?" I smiled, grabbing her hand and pulling her down onto my lap. She giggled, resting her head against my shoulder as the warm spring breeze rustled the oak trees.
"Where is Nora?" I asked, looking around the gardens.
"She's with Dr. Hayes and Viktor down at the pony stables," Elena replied, kissing my cheek softly. "Viktor bought her a white miniature pony for her fourth birthday next week."
"Viktor bought her a pony?" I laughed, shaking my head. "The scariest Russian enforcer in Philadelphia is buying four-year-olds miniature horses?"
"She has everyone in this city wrapped around her little finger, Luca," Elena smiled gently. "Including you."
"Especially me," I admitted without hesitation.
Elena looked into my eyes, her expression becoming sincere and tender. "Luca... four years ago, when my husband died, I thought my life was over. I thought the world was only filled with cruel men like Harland who take advantage of weakness. But you showed me that real strength... real power... protects the weak."
I squeezed her hand tightly, feeling the warmth of her fingers.
"You and Nora saved me, Elena," I whispered. "I was living in a golden cage, surrounded by money and fear, forgetting what it meant to be human. You brought light back into this house."
Just then, the sound of tiny running footsteps echoed down the stone pathway.
Nora came galloping up to the pool deck, wearing tiny riding boots and a helmet twice the size of her head, giggling uncontrollably as Viktor walked behind her carrying a tiny grooming brush.

"Mr. Luca! Mama!" Nora shouted, throwing her hands in the air. "The pony licked my hand! He likes me!"
I stood up, lifting Nora high into the air as she squealed with delight, her laughter ringing out across the sunny estate like the sweetest music in the world.
