Chapter 7 - THE SIEGE OF BUCKS COUNTY

By midnight, a thick fog had rolled in from the Delaware River, blanketing the long winding driveway of my estate.
The main house was completely blacked out. Security lights were cut, curtains drawn, and all non-essential staff had been evacuated to a safe house in downtown Philadelphia under armed escort.
Only Elena, Nora, myself, Viktor, and my top six tactical men remained inside the fortress.
In the basement safe room—a concrete bunker reinforced with three-inch steel doors—Elena held Nora tightly as I checked the lock mechanism from the outside.
"Luca," Elena called out, her voice trembling as she looked at me through the small bulletproof glass window. "Please... don't risk your life for us. Just give them the money... give them whatever they want!"
I looked at her through the glass, offering a calm, reassuring smile.
"They don't want money, Elena," I said quietly. "They want control. And no one takes control in my home."
Nora pressed her small hand against the glass window. "Mr. Luca... be careful."
I pressed my hand against the glass opposite hers. "I'll be back for breakfast, little one. Keep your mama safe."
I sealed the heavy vault door with a loud hydraulic HISS, locking them inside the impenetrable bunker.
I walked up to the grand foyer where Viktor was adjusting his night-vision goggles, holding an automatic rifle.
"They just breached the perimeter fence at the south gate," Viktor whispered, checking his wrist monitor. "Four men, heavy weapons, moving through the tree line toward the terrace."
"How many vehicles?" I asked, pulling a custom black tactical handgun from my holster.
"Just the one SUV. Harland’s muscle."
"Good," I said, stepping into the shadows of the marble staircase. "Let them get all the way inside. I want them to realize their mistake when there's no way out."
Ten seconds later, the heavy oak front doors were forced open with a loud metallic crack!
Four men dressed in dark jackets stepped into the dimly lit foyer, their boots crunching on the broken glass from earlier. The leader, a burly man named Frankie with a scarred face and an assault rifle, gestured for his men to split up.
"Find the girl and the mother!" Frankie hissed softly. "Harland said they're in the west wing! Move!"
"Looking for someone?" my voice echoed from the balcony above.
Frankie spun around, aiming his rifle upward—but before he could pull the trigger, two tactical flashbang grenades dropped from the ceiling!
BANG! BANG!
Blinding white light and deafening sound exploded in the foyer! The four intruders screamed, dropping their weapons as they clutched their ears, completely disoriented.
Within four seconds, Viktor’s men moved in from the side corridors like ghosts.
The sounds of swift, brutal hand-to-hand combat filled the foyer. Bone cracked, weapons clattered to the floor, and heavy bodies hit the marble stone.
Before Frankie could regain his sight, I dropped down from the staircase railing, landing right in front of him. I grabbed his rifle, twisted it out of his hands, and drove my knee directly into his chest!
Frankie hit the floor gasping for air, blood spilling from his lip.
I placed my boot firmly on his chest, pressing down until his ribs groaned under the weight.
"Who sent you, Frankie?" I asked softly, aiming my gun directly between his eyes.
"Harland..." Frankie wheezed, terror filling his eyes as he recognized my face in the dim light. "Harland... he paid us fifty grand... he said you were soft... he said you were distracted by a kid..."
May you like
I leaned down close to his ear.
"Tell Harland that he just signed his own death warrant."
