Chapter 6 - A Home Built on Stars (Happy Ending)
Six months later.
The late spring sun beamed down over the rolling green hills of a beautiful private estate overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. The air was warm, filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and the gentle sound of water crashing against the shoreline.
On the spacious back lawn, eight-year-old Noah was running across the grass, kicking a soccer ball, his laughter ringing clear and bright. He wore clean, warm clothes, his skin healthy and rosy, free of the fear that had once shadowed his eyes.
Under the shade of an oak tree, Sarah sat in a comfortable rattan chair, holding nine-month-old Lily in her arms. Lily was completely healthy, chubby-cheeked and smiling, babbling happily as she reached for a colorful wooden rattle.
Daniel walked out onto the lawn carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. He set it down on a wooden table, then walked over to Sarah, leaning down to press a soft kiss to her forehead before picking up little Lily.
Lily giggled, grabbing Daniel’s nose with her tiny fingers.
"She looks more like you every day," Sarah smiled, leaning her head against Daniel's arm.
"She has your eyes," Daniel replied gently, sitting beside her and holding his daughter securely against his chest.
Noah came running over, wiping sweat from his forehead, and flopped down on the grass beside them. "Dad! Did you see that kick?! It went all the way to the trees!"
"I saw it," Daniel laughed, reaching down to ruffle his son's hair. "You're getting better every day, Noah."
Noah smiled up at his father—a smile full of trust, pride, and total safety.
Inside the master suite of the house, above the baby's crib, hung a custom-crafted night-light that projected hundreds of glowing, dancing paper stars across the ceiling whenever the room went dark—a permanent reminder of the stars a brave little boy had once taped to an abandoned factory wall to make his sister smile.
Daniel looked out over the sparkling blue waters of the bay, holding his daughter in one arm and wrapping the other around Sarah and Noah.
