Chapter 6 - A Real Home

Six months later.

The estate garden was bathed in the warm, bright sunlight of late spring. The iron gates at the entrance stood open, no longer looking like the entrance to a fortress, but welcoming the sweet breeze from the valley.

The Moretti family’s criminal operations had been completely liquidated. Guided by Dominic and a team of top legitimate attorneys, Adrian had transferred every dollar of his vast wealth into legitimate commercial real estate, global shipping logistics, and a foundation dedicated to protecting victims of domestic violence—named the Catherine & Clara Foundation.

On the stone patio, a large wooden table was set for afternoon tea.

Elena sat in a sunlit chair, wearing a floral summer dress that highlighted her radiant beauty. She was laughing as she sketched in a notebook—a real art book now, filled with drawings of the gardens and the estate.

A few yards away, four-year-old Mia was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the manicured lawn, her bright laughter ringing out like music against the brick walls.

Adrian stepped out onto the terrace, wearing a crisp linen shirt and dark trousers. He carried a velvet box in his hand. He looked relaxed, younger, his face free of the cold paranoia that had defined his youth.

He walked over to Elena, leaning down to kiss her cheek before sitting beside her.

"How is the foundation report coming?" Adrian asked smoothly, pouring himself a cup of tea.

"We just approved funding for three new shelters in Brooklyn," Elena said, her eyes shining with happiness as she looked at him. "It’s amazing, Adrian. What you’re doing... it’s changing hundreds of lives."

"You changed mine," Adrian replied softly, reaching across the table to take her hand. "That's all the motivation I need."

Mia came running up the stone steps, the puppy tumbling behind her. She threw her arms around Adrian’s leg, looking up with her usual solemn intensity.

"Daddy Adrian!" she chirped loudly.

Adrian picked her up effortlessly, setting her on his knee. The word Daddy still made his heart swell every single time she said it.

"Yes, little boss?" Adrian smiled.

"Tommy at preschool said his dad has a big sports car," Mia reported gravely. "I told him my dad has a puppy and a giant house with secret rooms."

Elena laughed, shaking her head. "Mia, what did we say about boasting?"

"It’s not boasting if it’s true!" Mia insisted, puffing out her cheeks.

Adrian chuckled, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the small velvet box he had been carrying. He opened it, revealing a beautifully restored, antique mantel clock—its porcelain face repaired with gold lacquer techniques, glowing under the afternoon sun.

Elena gasped, recognizing it immediately. "The restorer finished it?"

"Yes," Adrian said, setting the clock in the center of the tea table. "He used gold to seal the cracks. He told me that in Japan, they call it Kintsugi. They believe that when something breaks and you repair it with gold, it becomes more beautiful than it was before."

He looked at Elena, his dark eyes filled with endless warmth, depth, and devotion.

"Our lives were broken, Elena," Adrian said softly. "By secrets, by fear, by the past. But we put them back together. Together."

Elena reached out, her fingers lacing through his, her tears shining like diamonds in the sun. "Not for one day, Adrian," she whispered. "For always."

Mia reached out her tiny hand, placing it over their joined fingers, her brown teddy bear resting comfortably beside the gold-repaired clock.

The shadows of the past were gone, burned away by the light. In their place stood a real home, a true love, and a family that would never be broken again.
