Chapter 4 - The Unseen Evidence

Lorenzo did not yell. He did not order his guards to draw their weapons.
Instead, the cold, lethal authority that had kept him alive for twenty years settled over the room like an inescapable winter freeze.
“Vincent,” Lorenzo said softly, his voice dangerously smooth. “Who carried out the physical search of the staff quarters?”
Vincent blinked, taken aback by the calm question. “I did, Boss. Personally. I searched Sophia’s room while she was assisting in the laundry.”
“And you found this pink backpack inside her closet?”
“Yes, Boss. Underneath a pile of folded towels.”
Lorenzo turned the glass bottle in his hand once more. “And you didn't notice the seal was tampered with?”
Vivian’s breath hitched sharp and fast. She subconsciously pulled her right hand behind her back, hiding her long, diamond-paved acrylic nails.
“What do you mean, tampered with, Lorenzo?” Vivian stammered, forcing a nervous smile. “The maid obviously opened them to check the contents—”
“These Swiss bottles are vacuum-sealed at the laboratory in Zürich,” Lorenzo interrupted, stepping closer to Vivian, his heavy boots making slow, deliberate echoes against the marble floor. “The seal cannot be opened by hand without leaving a clear trace of metallic foil under the rim. A maid who works with bare hands leaves skin oils. But this foil was scraped off by a diamond edge.”
Lorenzo held up the bottle, pointing to a tiny, microscopic speck of white silk thread caught in the serrated edge of the cap.
He reached out, grabbing Vivian’s silk sleeve, lifting her wrist into the light.
The fabric of her ivory silk dress was frayed at the cuff—a single, broken thread matching the exact color and material caught on the prescription cap.
“You were in my daughter's medical room today, Vivian,” Lorenzo said, his voice dropping into a register so dark it made the security guards shudder.
“No! Lorenzo, that's insane!” Vivian shrieked, backing away toward her father's security men. “You're taking the word of a scratch over my reputation?! I am a Bellini!”
“And I am a Moretti,” Lorenzo roared!
He turned to his chief of security. “Vincent. Bring me the backup security hard drives from the master vault.”
Vincent’s face drained of all color. “Boss... the master vault? I told you earlier, the camera feeds for the west corridor were wiped during the storm power surge—”
“The public feeds were wiped, Vincent,” Lorenzo said, a dark, terrifying smile touching his lips. “Do you really think I built a fifty-million-dollar estate and relied on a single local server? Every camera in this house mirrors its footage to a encrypted private cloud server in my personal office. A server that only my thumbprint can access.”
Vincent took two slow steps backward toward the front entrance doors.
Sophia looked up from the floor, her tears stopping as she watched the entire web of lies unravel right before her eyes.
Lorenzo pulled a sleek silver smartphone from his jacket pocket. He pressed his thumb against the screen, opened a private security application, and projected the live video stream onto the massive smart display hanging in the hall.
The high-definition video appeared clearly on the screen:
Time stamp: 1:14 PM.
The video showed Vincent Russo unlocking the medical safe using a master override key.
He pulled out the four glass bottles and handed them directly to Vivian Bellini.
Vivian scraped her diamond ring against the seal of the first bottle, checking the batch code, before slipping all four bottles into her designer handbag.
Three minutes later, the video showed Vincent walking into the staff quarters, opening Emma’s pink backpack, and stuffing the bottles inside!
The truth crashed through the grand hall like a physical force.
Vivian turned to run toward the doors, but two of Lorenzo’s loyal house guards stepped into her path, crossing their arms, blocking the exit.
Vincent reached for his shoulder holster, his hand flying toward his pistol—
BANG!
A single gunshot echoed through the hall!
Lorenzo had drawn his custom silver revolver in a split second. The bullet struck the marble floor one inch from Vincent’s left boot, blowing a jagged crater into the stone, sending shards of marble flying through the air!

Vincent froze, his hand trembling over his holster, staring into the barrel of Lorenzo’s smoking gun.
“Drop the weapon, Vincent,” Lorenzo commanded softly. “Or the next one goes between your eyes.”
