Chapter 6 - A NEW BEGINNING

Two years later.

The summer sun streamed brightly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the grand sunroom at the Moretti estate, casting golden light across the polished hardwood floors.

The dark, gloomy atmosphere that had once defined the thirty-room mansion was entirely gone. In its place were bright pastel rugs, framed family photographs, and the sweet, joyous sound of children’s laughter echoing through the halls.

The estate grounds were no longer a dark fortress of paranoia; they were a home.

In the center of the sunroom, five-year-old Lily was wearing a bright yellow princess dress, spinning around in circles while holding hands with her newborn baby brother, Leo, who was giggling happily in his wooden playpen.

I stood near the open terrace doors, holding a tray of fresh lemonade and fruit, wearing a simple, elegant cream sundress. My hair fell softly around my shoulders, my skin glowing with health, peace, and absolute happiness.

The nightmare of my past—the debts, the terror, the betrayal of Richard Miller—was a distant, faded memory. Richard was currently serving a fifteen-year sentence in a federal penitentiary for bank fraud and conspiracy, completely erased from our lives.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind.

I leaned my head back against Alessandro’s broad chest, letting out a soft, contented sigh as his warm lips pressed a sweet kiss to the crook of my neck.

“Are you happy, my love?” Alessandro whispered into my ear, his voice rich with warmth and deep devotion.

I turned in his arms, wrapping my hands around his neck, looking up into those dark brown eyes that I loved more than life itself.

Alessandro had changed so much in two years. The harsh lines of grief were gone from his face, replaced by the handsome, relaxed smile of a man who had found his true purpose as a husband and a father. He had stepped down from the active leadership of the family’s commercial holdings, transitioning the business into entirely legal, international real estate enterprises.

“I am the happiest woman in the world,” I murmured, smiling up at him. “Look at our family, Alessandro.”

Alessandro looked over at Lily, who was currently trying to put a tiny pair of toy sunglasses on baby Leo’s face, causing the infant to squeal with delight.

A soft, genuine smile lit up Alessandro’s entire face—the same beautiful smile that had first appeared under the oak tree two years ago when a brave three-year-old girl climbed onto his chest and saved his life.

“Mommy! Daddy! Look!” Lily cheered, running over to us with her arms wide open. “Leo laughed!”

Alessandro dropped to his knees, scooping Lily up into his powerful arms with one side while sweeping me into his embrace with the other, pulling us both tight against his heart.

“You brought sunlight back into this house, Grace,” Alessandro murmured softly, looking into my eyes with endless love. “You and Lily gave me a second chance at life. I promise to spend every day of my life protecting this family.”

I leaned in, pressing my lips to his in a deep, sweet, passionate kiss as the bright summer sunshine bathed us in its warm, golden light.

We had survived the darkness, shattered the shadows, and built a kingdom of love. And together, as a family, our story was just beginning.
