Chapter 6 - A Sound Future

One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Cray mansion was once again filled with people, but this time, there were no secrets, no hidden threat, and no fear.
Sunlight streamed through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating hundreds of white lilies and pastel roses that decorated the hall. The orchestra played a light, joyous melody that echoed through the vast stone arches.
Dominic stood near the altar at the front of the ballroom, looking incredibly handsome in a dark midnight-blue tuxedo. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a sharp suit and looking genuinely happy for his boss.
The heavy double doors opened.
Four-year-old Marcus walked down the aisle first, looking sharp in a custom mini-tuxedo. He carried a velvet pillow with two gold rings, grinning broadly as the guests smiled and clapped for him. He had grown so much over the past year—happy, healthy, and entirely devoted to Dominic, whom he now proudly called "Dad."
Then came the music shift.
I walked down the aisle on the arm of a retired judge who had become a close family friend. I wore a lace-trimmed ivory wedding gown with a flowing train, holding a bouquet of white orchids.
When my eyes met Dominic’s across the room, my breath caught. The man who had once ruled his world in terrifying silence was looking at me with tears in his eyes, his smile so bright it lit up the entire hall.
When I reached his side, Dominic took my hand, squeezing it firmly.
"You take my breath away, Elena," he whispered.
"You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Cray," I whispered back, a mischievous glint in my eye.
The minister smiled and began the ceremony. "We are gathered here today to unite Dominic and Elena in holy matrimony—a union brought together by fate, courage, and the miraculous gift of truth."
When it came time for the vows, Dominic didn't read from a card. He looked directly into my eyes, his voice steady, deep, and full of emotion.
"Elena," Dominic said softly. "For three years, I lived in a world without sound. I thought strength meant being silent, isolated, and feared. But then you and Marcus walked into my life. You showed me that real strength is protecting the people you love. You gave me back my hearing, but more importantly, you gave me a heart. I promise to love you, honor you, and shield you and Marcus from every storm for the rest of my days."
Tears streamed down my cheeks as I slipped the gold band onto his finger. "Dominic, you gave us safety when we had nowhere to go. You showed me what a true man looks like—someone who fights for justice and loves without fear. I promise to stand by your side, through every sound and every silence, forever."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared with a broad smile. "Dominic, you may kiss your bride!"
Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms and dipped me back slightly, kissing me with a passion that made the entire room erupt into thunderous applause and cheers.
Marcus ran up to us, tugging on Dominic’s trouser leg. "Dad! Dad! Is it time for cake now?"
Dominic laughed—a rich, booming sound that filled the entire ballroom—and picked Marcus up effortlessly in one arm while holding my waist with the other.

"Yes, buddy," Dominic said, kissing Marcus’s cheek. "It’s definitely time for cake."
As we walked out into the courtyard together under a shower of white rose petals, I looked at my husband and my son. The dark days of fear, poverty, and betrayal were gone forever, replaced by a bright, beautiful future filled with love, laughter, and the sweetest sound in the world—the sound of a real family.
