Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of Sterling

The aftermath of the trial was a total liquidation of the Sterling legacy. Sterling Enterprises filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and its assets were seized by the federal government to pay back the billions stolen from defrauded investors and public funds. Eleanor was sentenced to twenty years in a federal prison, while Cassandra received an eight-year sentence for her direct involvement in the conspiracy to frame Vanessa.
Dominic, because of his full cooperation and confession, avoided prison time but was stripped of his entire inheritance and barred from ever serving as an executive of a public company again. He left New York quietly, moving to a small town in the Midwest to live a life of obscurity, completely broke and forgotten by the high society that had once coddled him.
Vanessa stood outside the courthouse on the final day of the asset liquidation auction. Journalists surrounded her, microphones thrust into her face.
"Ms. Vance! How does it feel to see the family that humiliated you lose everything?" a reporter from the New York Post shouted.
Vanessa looked at the cameras, her face calm, radiant, and entirely free of bitterness. She was wearing a simple, elegant white blazer—a deliberate choice to show that no one could take away her right to wear whatever she wanted.

"This was never about revenge," Vanessa said clearly into the microphones. "This was about justice. The Sterlings thought they could destroy someone because they deemed them lower class. They thought their wealth made them untouchable. I hope today proves to every young entrepreneur and every person fighting from the bottom that integrity and strength will always outlast stolen power."
As she walked away from the press, Arthur and her father were waiting for her with smiles on their faces. But there was one more surprise waiting for Vanessa.
