Chapter 9 - Rebuilding Anew

Spring arrived in full bloom, painting the suburban neighborhood in vibrant shades of green and gold.

The old house felt different now—lighter, warmer, and filled with genuine laughter. Sarah visited almost every weekend, and our relationship, once fractured by our mother’s deliberate wedge-driving, healed into a strong, unbreakable bond. We spent hours drinking coffee on the porch, sharing memories of our childhood and laughing at the absurdities of the past.

Arthur had moved out of the decaying rooms of Blackwood Manor into a comfortable cottage nearby, funded by the estate settlement. He frequently visited us, bringing homemade jam and playing chess with Emily in the backyard. Emily adored him, listening spellbound to his tales of the old days, completely free of the dark shadows that had once haunted our lives.

I had also made significant changes in my own life. I left my grueling retail management job and enrolled in business courses online, pursuing a long-forgotten dream of opening my own community bakery.
