Chapter 7 - The True Kingdom

Two months later, the bitter winter wind of New York gave way to the soft, warm breath of an early spring.
The Holloway estate in the Hamptons—a massive, historic compound surrounded by high stone walls and a pristine private beach—was filled with the sounds of a quiet celebration.
The private medical wing of the estate had been converted into a state-of-the-art nursery, staffed by a dedicated team of neonatal nurses that Jay had hired permanently from St. Catherine’s.
Claire stood on the grand terrace, wearing a beautiful, comfortable white linen dress, her hair flowing softly in the sea breeze. Her skin was warm, her eyes bright and clear as she looked down at the infant cradled against her chest. Grace had grown beautifully, her weight up to a healthy seven pounds, her small blue eyes tracking the clouds above the water.
Jay walked out onto the terrace, wearing a casual dark sweater and jeans—a look his corporate rivals hadn't seen him wear in a decade. He wrapped his powerful arms around Claire’s waist, resting his chin on her shoulder as he looked down at their daughter.
"The lawyers finalized the final settlement this morning," Jay whispered, his lips brushing against the side of her neck. "The divorce is absolute. The Walsh name has been legally removed from every registry in the state. Grace’s birth certificate has been reissued."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, elegant velvet box, opening it to reveal a stunning, pear-shaped sapphire ring that caught the morning light like a piece of the ocean.
"I spent eight years building a kingdom of glass and iron because I thought success was the only way to prove I was enough for you, Claire," Jay said, his voice rich with an unshakeable emotion as he looked into her eyes. "But I was wrong. The kingdom didn't matter. The only thing that ever mattered was being the man who stands beside you when the world gets dark. Will you marry me?"
May you like
Claire let out a loud, joyous cry, her tears of pure happiness spilling onto the velvet box as she threw her free arm around his neck. "Yes, Jay! A million times, yes!"
He slid the sapphire ring onto her finger, pulling his family into a deep, protective embrace that completely shattered the memories of the cold hospital hallway, bringing their long, dark winter to a final, beautiful end beneath the everlasting, golden light of their new home.
