Chapter 3 - The Confrontation in Lake Forest

Arthur stood up instantly, his posture rigid. "Mr. Harrington, you are trespassing on private property. Leave immediately, or I will have the state police arrest you and your men."

"Let them try!" Blake snarled, slamming a thick stack of papers onto the mahogany library table. "Those are emergency court mandates. I have already filed an expedited paternity motion in the Cook County circuit court. I am a billionaire, Emma! I own three of the largest clean-energy firms in the world! I will buy every judge in this state before I let you keep my children from me!"

I stood up slowly. The sheer arrogance of his words—the belief that his wealth could cure the horrific wound he had inflicted on our family—made something inside me snap.

"Is that your answer for everything, Blake?" I asked, walking around the desk until I stood just inches from him. "Money? Power? Mandates? You think you can buy five years of missed birthdays? Five years of sleepless nights, of fevers, of first steps, of learning to walk? You threw me out!"

"I threw you out because you were sleeping with another man and selling my father's legacy to our rivals!" Blake yelled back, his chest heaving, his voice cracking with a raw, bleeding agony. "I loved you, Emma! I gave you everything, and you betrayed me!"

"I NEVER BETRAYED YOU!" I screamed, the five years of suppressed rage finally exploding from my throat. The sheer force of my voice caught him completely off guard. He stepped back, his eyes widening.

"You never looked at the data, Blake," I whispered, tears of fury hot against my cheeks. "You saw three text messages from an unknown number and you let your cousin Julian and Cynthia Sterling whisper poison in your ear. You wanted to believe I was a liar because it was easier for your massive ego to handle a betrayal than to admit someone inside your own bloodline was smarter than you."

Blake frowned, his legal team shifting uncomfortably behind him. "What... what are you talking about? What does Julian have to do with this?"

Arthur stepped forward, tossing the investigator's file directly onto Blake's stack of court papers. "Open it, Blake. Look at the digital forensic routing. The text messages that destroyed your marriage were generated from an IP address registered to your cousin's private penthouse. The 'affair' you accused Emma of was a phantom created to isolate her so Julian could transfer the patents for the Helios Hydrogen Project into his own offshore accounts."

Blake’s face drained of color. He looked at the file, his hands shaking violently as he flipped through the pages of IP logs, bank accounts, and email correspondences between Julian and Cynthia.

"No... no, this can't be true," Blake stammered, his eyes scanning the absolute proof of his own catastrophic mistake. "Julian... Julian has been my right hand for a decade. My mother... my mother swears by him..."

"Your mother was the one who introduced Cynthia to Julian in the first place, Blake," I said, my voice dropping to a freezing, clinical register. "They used your paranoia as a weapon against the woman who loved you. And you let them. You sat on that plane today trying to humiliate me, thinking I was a broken, rejected ex-wife. But while you were playing the grieving billionaire, I was building an empire of truth. Now, get out of my house."
