Chapter 2 - No Way Out

By 2:00 PM, Ethan was standing on the sidewalk outside Core Dynamics, holding a cardboard box filled with his desk items. His phone was buzzing non-stop. It was his mother, Margaret.
"Ethan! Where are you?!" Margaret shrieked through the line. "Two men in suits just showed up at the house! They have a court order! They’re putting locks on the doors!"
"What?!" Ethan yelled, dropping his box of belongings into the gutter. "They can't lock you out! That’s my house!"
"They said the house belongs to an asset trust under Madison’s name!" Margaret wailed. "They’re putting my designer luggage on the lawn! Ethan, do something! I haven't had my sugar-free lunch!"
Ethan felt like the world was spinning out of control. The quiet, compliant woman who used to wipe the flour off her apron just to massage his tired shoulders at night was systematically erasing his existence.
Desperate and furious, Ethan jumped into his luxury SUV, intending to drive straight to the hospital and force Madison to stop this madness. But the moment he turned the key, a loud siren chirped behind him. A police cruiser pulled up, blocking his path.
An officer stepped out, tapping on Ethan's window. "Mr. Ethan Carter?"
"Yes! Look, I'm in a hurry—"

"Step out of the vehicle, sir," the officer said calmly. "This vehicle is registered under Apex Vanguard Corporate Fleet. The company has reported it unauthorized for personal use following your termination. Furthermore, we have a warrant for your arrest regarding corporate embezzlement and identity fraud filed by Core Dynamics."
As the cold steel of handcuffs clicked around his wrists in broad daylight, Ethan looked up at the sky, a terrifying realization finally dawning on him. Madison hadn't just broken her leg; she had broken his entire life.
