Chapter 2 - The Confrontation on the Marble Stairs

The sound of Vivian Bradford’s expensive crystal champagne glass shattering on the marble balcony seemed to echo across the entire estate. For a long, suffocating minute, the only sound was the rustle of the wind through the perfectly manicured hedges of the Bradford estate. Hundreds of high-society guests—senators, CEOs, judges, and old-money aristocrats—stood completely frozen, their eyes darting from me and my three boys to the altar where Garrett stood, looking as though he had just seen three ghosts.

Leo, Owen, and Wyatt stood perfectly straight beside me, their little hands resting confidently in mine. I had prepared them for this. I hadn't raised them to be fearful; I had raised them to know exactly who they were.

Vivian Bradford descended the grand curved outdoor staircase like a snake gliding down a tree. Her face, usually masked in perfect aristocratic composure, was twisted in a mixture of pure horror and consuming rage. Her diamonds clicked against her neck as she marched toward us, the train of her mother-of-the-bride dress dragging heavily on the stone.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Vivian hissed, her voice low but sharp enough to cut glass. She stopped exactly two feet away from us, refusing to look down at the boys, keeping her glaring eyes locked onto mine. "Audrey, how dare you show up here? And who are these children you have hired to disrupt my son’s wedding? Security! Remove this woman immediately!"

Two burly security guards in black suits stepped forward, but before they could even reach for their radios, my own security detail—four highly trained, elite bodyguards from my private firm—stepped in front of us, forming an unbreakable human wall.

"Don't even think about it," I said, my voice smooth, echoing with an authority that left no room for argument. I stepped past my guards, looking Vivian dead in the eye. "Hired, Vivian? Look closely at them. Look at their eyes. Look at the way Leo holds his chin. You spent thirty years trying to breed the perfect Bradford heir, and yet you can’t recognize your own blood?"

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd of guests. The whispers began like a wildfire.

“Look at their hair…” “They have the exact same gray eyes as Garrett…” “My God, they are identical to how Garrett looked as a child!”

Garrett finally broke out of his trance. He abandoned his bride-to-be at the altar, sprinting down the aisle toward us. His face was entirely pale, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps. He stopped, staring down at the three little boys. Leo looked up at him, tilting his head with the exact same stubborn curiosity that Garrett used to have.

"Audrey..." Garrett’s voice shook violently. "Are they... are they mine?"

"Garrett, don't listen to this garbage!" Vivian snarled, grabbing her son’s arm. "She ran away five years ago because she was a penniless, gold-digging fraud! She’s trying to ruin your life! She’s trying to humiliate us in front of the Senator!"

At that moment, the bride, Evelyn, the senator’s daughter, marched down the stairs. Her face was flushed with embarrassment and fury. "Garrett! What is going on? Who is this woman, and why are people saying these are your children?!"

I smiled, a cold, elegant expression that made Vivian’s hands tremble. "I didn't come to ruin your wedding, Garrett. Your mother sent me an invitation to Table 27, right by the kitchen door, hoping to show everyone how 'completely erased' I was. I simply brought my family. But since you're all so confused, let's clear up the air."

I snapped my fingers. My assistant stepped forward, opening a sleek leather briefcase, and pulled out three certified documents.

"Three separate DNA profiles, legally binding and notarized by the highest court in the city," I announced, handing them directly to Garrett. "They prove a 99.9% biological match to you. Meet Leo, Owen, and Wyatt Bradford. The children your mother threatened to steal from my womb five years ago."

Garrett dropped to his knees on the marble floor, the documents shaking in his hands. He looked at the boys, tears filling his gray eyes. "Five years... I had three sons for five years, and I never knew?"

"And you never would have known," I whispered fiercely, looking down at him. "Because your mother told me I was nothing but a incubator for your family name. But look at me now, Vivian. I don't need your crumbling estate. I don't need your family name. I am Audrey Vance, CEO of Vance Digital Media, and I own more shares in your family's logistics firm than you do."

Vivian looked as if she had been struck by lightning. The crumbling Bradford fortune was a closely guarded secret—they desperately needed the senator’s daughter’s dowry and connections to survive. And I had just exposed everything in front of the entire high-society elite.

Before anyone could say another word, the Senator himself walked forward, his face dark with political calculation. He looked at the three boys, then at Garrett on his knees, and finally at his own daughter.

"Evelyn," the Senator said, his voice booming across the silent courtyard. "Take off the ring. This wedding is over."
