Chapter 5 - Healing the Foundation

The grand estate fell into a serene, absolute quiet as the security detail dragged twelve sobbing, screaming parasites past the iron gates and locked them out in the pouring rain.
I took the private elevator straight to the third-floor master suite.
The room was warm, softly lit, and filled with the gentle scent of lavender and fresh linen. Dr. Chen was just finishing wrapping Clara’s delicate hands in soft, medicated gauze bandages. An IV drip was gently hydrating her pale skin.
"How is she, Doctor?" I asked softly, stepping over to the bed and taking a seat on the mattress beside my wife.
"Severe exhaustion, mild chemical burns on the hands, and extreme emotional trauma, Mr. Vance," Dr. Chen replied in a low, professional tone. "Physically, she will recover fully with rest and proper care over the next few weeks. Mentally... she needs to feel safe."
"She will never be unsafe again," I promised, taking Dr. Chen’s hand in a firm shake before he bowed and quietly exited the room, closing the heavy mahogany doors behind him.
I looked down at Clara.
Her eyelids fluttered open. The terrifying, hunted look in her dark eyes was slowly giving way to exhaustion and confusion as she took in the warmth of our private room, the soft blankets, and my presence beside her.
"Julian...?" she whispered, her voice frail. "Are... are they gone?"
"They are gone forever, sweetheart," I murmured, leaning down to press a tender kiss against her forehead. "They will never step foot on this property again. They will never speak to you, touch you, or look at you ever again."
Tears filled her eyes—not tears of pain or fear, but tears of overwhelming, long-awaited relief.
"I tried to stay strong, Julian," she choked out, her bandaged hands trembling as she tried to raise them to touch my face. "When you left for Europe... Aunt Evelyn brought all her friends over. They locked my phone in your safe... they told me if I tried to leave, they would tell the police I stole your money... I was so scared you would believe them..."
"Shh, my love," I whispered, gently resting my cheek against hers, pulling her fragile body into my broad arms with infinite tenderness. "I knew the truth the second I walked through that door. I built an empire for us, Clara. Not for them. Everything I have belongs to you."
I reached into my inner jacket pocket—the pocket that had remained untouched during the entire war downstairs—and pulled out a small, navy velvet box.
Clara watched through her tears as I opened it.

Inside lay a breathtaking, flawless sixty-carat pink diamond necklace, sparkling like a constellation of stars under the soft bedroom lights.
"I had this custom-cut in Antwerp three weeks ago," I told her, lifting the brilliant jewel into the light. "I wanted to give it to you the moment I walked through the door to show you that no matter how big my world gets, you are the only crown I will ever wear."
