Chapter 6 - Dawn of Accountability

The sun began to rise over the Chicago skyline, casting long, golden beams of light across the manicured lawns of the estate.
Inside the master suite, Audrey was still sleeping peacefully, her breathing steady and relaxed for the first time in months. I sat in a velvet armchair beside the bed, holding her hand, watching the tension slowly leave her face.
At 7:00 AM sharp, the private security intercom chimed softly.
I quietly stood up, kissed Audrey’s forehead without waking her, and walked out into the hallway, closing the bedroom door behind me.
Downstairs in the grand foyer, federal marshals accompanied by local law enforcement officers stood waiting. The front security shutters had been partially retracted to allow them entry.
Lead Investigator Agent Marcus Vance—an independent federal prosecutor unrelated to our corrupt family lawyer—stepped forward, holding a thick stack of federal arrest warrants.
"Mr. Hayes," Agent Vance nodded respectfully. "We received your data packet at headquarters last night. Judge Henderson reviewed the evidence and signed warrants for conspiracy, embezzlement, extortion, and felony domestic endangerment."
"I know," I replied, handing over the digital master-key cards granting federal access to the lower holding suites where my mother and her co-conspirators were contained. "You'll find all the primary suspects secured downstairs, along with complete paper trails and encrypted server backups on the study desk."
Agent Vance looked at me with a mixture of professional respect and grim curiosity. "It's not every day a corporate titan turns in his own family, Mr. Hayes."
"They stopped being my family the moment they decided to torture my pregnant wife," I answered without hesitation. "Do your job, Agent. Leave no stone unturned."
Within twenty minutes, my mother, my aunts, and our disgraced former family attorney were led out of the estate in handcuffs, their faces shielded from the early morning press corps already gathering outside the perimeter gates.

The Hayes family dynasty was officially facing the harshest reckoning in its history.
And I didn't shed a single tear.
