Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Alliance

The boardroom erupted into chaos.
Victoria shrieked, slamming her hands on the table and yelling at my mother for being careless enough to leave her phone unprotected. Eleanor began hyperventilating, loosening her silk scarf as she realized the full magnitude of the legal disaster unfolding around them.
Sterling Vance frantically pulled out his own cell phone, attempting to call his criminal defense partners, only to find his mobile signal completely jammed by the estate's high-frequency security firewall.
"You can't do this to your own family, Daniel!" Victoria screamed, tears of pure rage springing to her eyes. "We built this dynasty! We made Hayes Global what it is today! You're destroying decades of legacy for a charity case!"
"My wife is not a charity case," I said, standing up slowly from my chair. The sheer drop in temperature in my voice silenced them instantly. "She is carrying my son. And the dynasty you claim to have built was funded by the very corporate integrity you all conspired to corrupt."
My mother remained seated at the far end of the table. She hadn't screamed or panicked like her sisters. She stared at me with a cold, calculating gaze that chilled me to the bone.
"You think you've won, Daniel," my mother said softly, her voice steady. "You think locking us in this room and threatening federal prison changes who you are. You carry our blood. You are ruthless, calculating, and cold—just like your grandfather. You married her out of sentimentality, but eventually, you'll realize we were right."
I walked slowly around the table until I was standing right beside her chair. I leaned down, my lips close to her ear.
"I am nothing like you," I whispered. "My ruthlessness isn't used to destroy the helpless. It's used to protect them from monsters like you."
I straightened up, pressed the intercom button on the wall, and spoke clearly into the microphone.
"Security team, escort Ms. Victoria, Ms. Eleanor, and Mr. Vance down to the lower holding suites. Ensure they are comfortable, but do not let them touch a phone, a computer, or the outside world until federal authorities arrive at dawn."

Within seconds, four towering security guards in tactical suits entered the boardroom. My aunts protested loudly, but the guards moved with silent, unyielding efficiency, guiding them out of the room.
Only my mother remained at the table.
