Chapter 6 - The Sterling Dynasty

Six months later.
The morning sun was streaming through the massive windows of a private estate overlooking the coast of Maine. The air was crisp, filled with the scent of pine and the gentle, rhythmic crashing of the ocean waves against the rocks below.
I sat on a wooden bench in the grand garden, a cup of warm herbal tea in my hand. Beside me, Sophia was running through the grass, laughing hysterically as she chased a golden retriever puppy. She was happy, healthy, and completely healed from the shadows of the past. She no longer asked about her father—not because she forgot him, but because she was surrounded by a family that actually loved her.
A tall, broad-shouldered man in a dark tailored coat walked out of the house, holding a tablet. It was Victor, my third brother.
"The final liquidation papers have just been signed, Viv," Victor said, sitting beside me and offering a rare, genuine smile. "Vance Industries has been completely dissolved. The assets were purchased by our family foundation. We’re converting the corporate headquarters into a state-of-the-art children's hospital and research facility."
"And Dominic?" I asked quietly, taking a slow sip of my tea.
"He was sentenced to fifteen years in a federal maximum-security penitentiary yesterday," Victor replied, his voice flat and unyielding. "No possibility of parole. Helena’s father received twelve years. They’re going to spend the next decade sharing a concrete cell, thinking about the family they tried to destroy."
I looked out over the ocean, a deep, beautiful sense of absolute peace settling into my soul.
Seven months ago, I was a submissive wife hiding in the shadows, letting a monster rewrite my value because I wanted to believe in a lie. I had allowed myself to become small to keep a toxic peace. But the fire they used to try and humiliate my daughter had only served to wake up the giant they should have never crossed.
"The trust fund for Sophia is fully secured, Vivienne," Victor added gently, reaching out to pat my shoulder. "She will never have to hide who she is. She will inherit a dynasty built on absolute truth."
"She will know her value from day one, Victor," I whispered, watching my daughter pick a yellow wildflower from the grass and run toward us with a brilliant, unshakeable smile.

Dominic had thought that by casting me aside, he was securing his future. He thought he was locking me out of his kingdom. But he had completely forgotten that he was playing in a sandbox my family had built.
I smiled, open arms waiting as my daughter leapt into my lap, completely free, completely victorious, and ready to live a life that would never be hidden again.
