Chapter 6 - THE GARDEN OF MORETTI

One year later.

Spring had arrived in full bloom over the Hudson River valley.

The stone walls of the Moretti estate were covered in bright green ivy and sweet blooming white jasmine. The sound of happy laughter echo across the sprawling manicured lawns, where dozens of children were playing among white floral arrangements and silk marquees.

Today was the day of the grand wedding.

Inside the master suite of the mansion, Sophia stood in front of a full-length gilded mirror.

She looked like a vision from a fairy tale. Her custom-made lace wedding gown was a masterpiece of Italian design, designed specifically to honor and embrace every glorious, plush curve of her body. The sweetheart neckline highlighted her radiant skin, while a long, sparkling veil attached to a pearl tiara cascaded down her back.

Behind her stood Emma, now seven years old, wearing a beautiful little pink flower-girl dress and a crown of daisies.

"You look like a real princess, Mommy," Emma said, her brown eyes shining with pure joy as she adjusted the ribbon on her dress.

Sophia turned around, kneeling down despite her heavy dress, pulling Emma into a warm, tight hug. "I’m not a princess, baby. I’m just the luckiest mommy in the world."

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Marco stepped inside, wearing a crisp black tuxedo with a white rose on his lapel. "It's time, Mrs. Moretti. The Don is waiting."

Sophia took a deep breath, holding Emma’s small hand tightly as they walked out of the suite and down the grand marble staircase that had once been stained with blood and shattered crystal.

The ceremony took place in the estate’s private botanical garden.

A hundred guests—reformed union leaders, city officials, estate staff, and syndicate representatives—sat in white wooden chairs along a path covered in white rose petals.

At the end of the aisle, standing under a massive arch of white orchids and greenery, was Damiano Moretti.

He took everyone’s breath away. He wore a tailored white tuxedo jacket with a black bow tie, his dark hair neatly styled, his silver eyes glowing with an intense, raw emotion that no person had ever seen in him before. Standing beside him as his best man was Marco.

When the string quartet began playing the bridal chorus, the heavy oak garden doors opened.

Sophia walked down the aisle.

She moved with absolute grace, her hazel eyes locked entirely onto Damiano’s face. Every fear, every struggle, every late night spent wiping floors to feed her child had led her to this exact moment. She wasn't an outsider anymore. She was the heart and soul of this empire.

As she reached the altar, Damiano stepped down, reaching out both of his large, warm hands to take hers.

"You take my breath away, my sweet Sophia," Damiano whispered, his voice trembling slightly with overwhelming love.

"You look handsome yourself, Don Damiano," Sophia teased softly, her heart overflowing with happiness.

The priest stepped forward, opening the golden gospel book as the gentle spring breeze rustled the leaves above them.

"We are gathered here today," the priest began, "to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. A union forged in the fire of trial, proven by courage, and blessed by love."

When it came time for the vows, Damiano took both of Sophia’s hands, looking directly into her eyes without looking at his written card.

"Sophia," Damiano said, his deep baritone voice resonating through the silent garden. "When you first walked into my house, I was a man living in darkness. I thought power was built with weapons and fear. But you and Emma showed me that true power is found in protection, in gentleness, and in loyalty."

He took a brilliant platinum band encrusted with diamonds from the ring cushion held by Emma.

"I promise to shield you with my life," Damiano swore, sliding the ring onto her soft finger. "I promise to honor you as my equal, my queen, and my forever love. Everything I own is yours."

Sophia wiped a tear of joy from her cheek, taking the matching platinum band.

"Damiano," Sophia whispered softly, her voice filled with deep emotion. "You didn't just save my daughter and me from danger—you gave us a home. You looked past my uniform, past my background, and loved me for who I am. My heart, my life, and my love belong to you for all eternity."

She slid the ring onto his heavy finger.

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a radiant smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You may kiss the bride!"

Damiano didn't wait a single second.

He wrapped his massive arms around Sophia’s broad, lace-clad waist, pulling her flush against his broad chest, and dipped her low, kissing her deeply as the entire crowd erupted into wild, thunderous applause.

Emma cheered loudly, throwing hand-fulls of pink rose petals into the air around them.

Damiano lifted Sophia back onto her feet, then bent down, scooping Emma up into his arm, holding both his wife and his daughter tight against his heart.

As the afternoon sun cast a warm, golden light over the garden, the dark past vanished completely into memory. The mafia king, his brave queen, and the little girl who saved them walked hand in hand down the aisle—unbroken, protected, and loved forever.
