Chapter 3 - The Secret Sister

The meeting took place in a quiet, secluded tea room inside the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, surrounded by snow-covered glass greenhouses.
Clare sat near the back, nursing a cup of warm chamomile tea.
At 1:00 PM, a woman walked in. She was around thirty-five, with sharp, intelligent dark eyes, an olive complexion, and a striking facial structure that bore an uncanny resemblance to William Mercer. She wore a simple charcoal trench coat and carried a worn leather briefcase.
Eleanor Parker sat across from Clare.
For a long moment, the two women simply looked at each other—the forgotten daughter and the discarded wife.
"You look like him," Clare said softly. "William."
Eleanor gave a bitter, soft smile. "I have his eyes. Harrison got his ambition." She looked at Clare's pregnant belly. "How are you holding up?"
"I'm surviving," Clare said. "I found your father's letter in the storage box on Christmas Eve. Harrison left me for another woman that same night."
Eleanor’s eyes softened with genuine sympathy. "I'm sorry, Clare. Harrison has been a monster for a long time. When my mother died fifteen years ago, William wanted to bring me into the family. But Harrison threatened to destroy William's reputation. He told my father that if he publicly acknowledged me, Harrison would release medical records showing William was unfit to run Mercer Holdings."
"He blackmailed his own father?" Clare gasped.
"Harrison is a sociopath wrapped in a Tom Ford suit," Eleanor said coldly. "Four years ago, when William was dying, Harrison forged my death certificate. He legally declared me dead in the state of New York so he could transfer my fifty percent ownership of Mercer Holdings into his private shell company in the Cayman Islands."
"Project Obsidian," Clare blurted out.
Eleanor froze. "How do you know that name?"
Clare pulled out the encrypted flash drive from her purse and laid it on the table. "I downloaded Harrison’s private files before I left the penthouse. He has a hidden folder titled Project Obsidian. It contains bank routing numbers, offshore accounts, and the final approval papers for the IPO scheduled for January 15th."
Eleanor stared at the flash drive, her breath catching in her throat. "Clare... do you realize what you have here?"
"I know it's the evidence to destroy him," Clare said firmly. "Harrison thinks I'm sitting in some hotel room crying, waiting for him to apologize. He thinks I'm weak because I loved him."
She leaned across the table, her eyes burning with pure, unyielding resolve.
"I helped build Harrison’s image for eight years. I organized his charity galas, I charmed his investors, I stood by him when his father died. I know every board member at Mercer Holdings. And I am going to help you take back what he stole."
Eleanor looked at Clare, a powerful smile spreading across her face. "Partner?"
"Partner," Clare agreed, shaking Eleanor’s hand.
Meanwhile, back in Midtown, Harrison was falling apart.
Sienna Blake walked into his executive office at Mercer Holdings, wearing an emerald silk dress, expecting a romantic post-Christmas afternoon.
"Harrison, darling," Sienna purred, leaning over his desk. "When are we announcing the divorce? The press is already asking why Clare wasn't with you at the St. Regis holiday gala."
Harrison slammed his hands on his desk, his eyes bloodshot and terrifying.
"GET OUT!" Harrison roared.
Sienna gasped, stepping back. "What?"
"Get out of my office, Sienna!" Harrison snarled, his face twisted in rage. "Clare took the Mercer files! She knows about Eleanor! If the board finds out before the IPO on January 15th, I am FINISHED! Do you understand? I don't give a damn about your apartment or your jewelry! Get out!"
Sienna stared at him, her face turning pale with humiliation and anger. "You used me."
"I used everyone!" Harrison shouted. "Now get out before I have security throw you onto the street!"

As Sienna stormed out of the building, her heart burning with venom, she pulled out her phone and made a call to Manhattan's premier celebrity gossip columnist.
Harrison Mercer had declared war on the wrong women. And his empire was beginning to fracture from the inside.
