Chapter 4 - The Truth in the Details

By Thursday night, the media was in a frenzy. A leaked video of Amelia in the alley with her brother had been broadcast on local news, accompanied by anonymous sources claiming Dr. Carter had been abusing her medical privileges for years.

Nathan’s PR team was working overtime. On television, commentators debated whether the forensic evidence Amelia presented was fabricated.

Inside her apartment, Amelia sat at her dining table, surrounded by medical textbooks, printouts of the video, and chemical analysis reports. She hadn't slept in thirty-six hours. Leo was safe in the hospital, under protective custody, recovering from what toxicological reports confirmed was a forced dose of high-purity fentanyl.

Sarah was pacing the floor, her face pale. "Amelia, the public opinion is shifting. The judge is under immense pressure. Marcus Vance has filed an emergency petition to dismiss your forensic evidence based on 'gross character compromise and potential evidence tampering.' If we don't counter this tomorrow, the judge might grant it."

"They played their hand too early," Amelia said, her voice steady despite her exhaustion. "They thought they were framing me. But in forensic science, every action leaves a trace. Every lie has a signature."

She turned her laptop screen toward Sarah.

"Look at the video Chloe Reynolds leaked. This is a frame-by-frame analysis of the moment they approached me. Look at the man on the left. The one who threw the bag of drugs onto the ground."

Amelia zoomed in on the man’s hand. He was wearing a distinctive leather glove with a metal buckle.

"That glove has a very specific wear pattern," Amelia explained. "But more importantly, look at the baggie he threw." She pulled up a chemical analysis document. "I had the hospital run a rapid-tox and chemical analysis on the residue from that bag. It wasn't standard street fentanyl. It was a highly purified, pharmaceutical-grade chemical compound, tagged with a specific manufacturing batch number: Lot #882-X."

Sarah frowned. "What does that mean?"

"It means it didn't come from a drug dealer," Amelia smiled, a cold, dangerous smile. "It came from a commercial chemical supplier. Only licensed medical facilities and research corporations can purchase Lot #882-X. And guess who owns a 40% stake in Apex Bio-Pharma, one of the primary distributors of this exact chemical compound?"

Sarah’s eyes widened. "Nathan."

"Not just Nathan," Amelia added, clicking to the next slide. "His mother, Vivian, is the chairwoman of the board. I went through the shipping logs of Apex Bio-Pharma from last week. A 'sample batch' of Lot #882-X was delivered directly to the executive suite of Carter Holdings on Tuesday afternoon. Signed for by none other than Chloe Reynolds."

Sarah let out a breathless laugh. "They didn't just frame you; they left a paper trail straight to their own company."

"There's more," Amelia said, her eyes shining with absolute determination. "The man who threw the bag—the one with the leather glove. I recognized his silhouette. His name is Robert Vance. He’s the estranged nephew of Nathan’s lawyer, Marcus Vance. He works as a 'private security consultant' for Carter Holdings. I did a forensic analysis of the video's audio track. The ambient noise in the alley was high, but using a bandpass filter, I isolated the sound of his voice when he spoke to Chloe."

She pressed play. A clear, filtered voice came through the speakers: "Is the boss sure about this? If the cop looks too close at the batch, it leads back to Apex."

And then Chloe’s voice: "Nathan said doesn't matter. By the time they look, she’ll already be ruined."

Sarah stood up, her hand over her mouth. "My God, Amelia. This isn't just a divorce case anymore. This is a criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, and corporate espionage."

"Exactly," Amelia said, closing her laptop. "Tomorrow morning, we aren't just going to defend my character. We are going to destroy theirs."
