Chapter 6 - The Light on the Horizon

One Year Later
The warm summer sun shone brightly over the rolling green hills of the Moretti Estate in Lake Forest.
The heavy iron security gates at the perimeter were still guarded by elite personnel, but the dark, oppressive atmosphere of the estate had completely vanished. The courtyard was filled with the bright, joyful sound of children’s laughter, barking dogs, and splash of water from the grand stone fountain.
Standing near the edge of the fountain was eight-year-old Mia, wearing a bright yellow sundress, floating paper boats across the clear water with the twins, Emma and Ava.
Across the lawn, fifteen-year-old Daniel was tossed a football back and forth with Gabriel, his posture confident, his fractured shoulder entirely healed, his dark eyes clear and full of ambition. Beside them, thirteen-year-old Lucas sat on a stone bench, sketching the high rose arches in a large leather sketchbook Victor had bought him for his birthday.
And near the patio, six-year-old Noah was riding a small pony led by Matteo, laughing wildly as the breeze whipped through his dark curls.
Sitting at a long white wrought-iron table on the shaded terrace were Victor and Olivia.
Victor wore a light linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, his dark eyes calm and contented as he watched his six children play. On his left ring finger, a polished gold band caught the bright afternoon light.
Beside him, Olivia looked radiant in a white silk dress, her dark hair pinned up with fresh lavender sprigs. On her hand sat the vintage platinum sapphire ring—the one Victor had bought nineteen years ago, finally resting where it belonged.
A sleek silver tray sat on the table between them, holding a fresh pot of dark Italian espresso, fresh berries, and a framed photograph that had been taken two weeks ago on the beach in Malibu.
It showed all eight of them—Victor, Olivia, and the six children—standing together against the setting sun, smiling, whole, and free.
Victor reached across the table, wrapping his hand around Olivia’s fingers, pulling her hand to his lips for a soft kiss.
"What time is it?" Victor asked with a soft, mischievous grin.
Olivia looked down at her delicate gold wristwatch. "It’s exactly two-forty-five, Mr. Moretti."
Victor chuckled, pulling her close into his side, his arm wrapping securely around her waist as Noah came running up the stone steps, holding a handful of freshly picked daisies.
"Look, Mommy! Look, Daddy!" Noah cheered, holding the bright yellow flowers up to them with a giant smile. "I picked these for the kitchen table!"
Victor leaned down, scooping his youngest son up into his broad arms with an easy, practiced strength, setting him right on his lap.

"They are beautiful, Noah," Victor said softly, kissing the boy's forehead before looking up into Olivia’s glowing eyes. "The table has never looked better."
And there, beneath the warm summer sun, surrounded by the laughter of six healed children and the promise of a peaceful tomorrow, the shadows of the Chicago empire were finally replaced by the enduring light of a family restored.
