Chapter 4 - The Poison in the Well

Back in New York, the VIP lounge of the fertility clinic had turned into a scene of absolute chaos.
"What is this?" Diane shrieked, grabbing Bradley’s phone from his hand as he stared blankly at the screen. "Bradley, talk to me! What did Sarah’s lawyer do? What did she mean by medical records?"
"Nothing, Mom," Bradley mumbled, his voice hollow, his face sweating. "It’s nothing. She’s just trying to mess with our heads."
"Bradley," Tiffany said, her voice dropping its sweet, delicate tone, turning suddenly sharp and defensive. She stood up from the chaise lounge, her eyes darting between him and his mother. "What medical records? What is she talking about?"
"Let me see that," Harold said, his stern patriarch face hardening as he grabbed the iPad his personal assistant had just brought into the room. He logged into the family’s secure email portal, where Arthur Vance had forwarded the court documents.
He opened the attachment titled Exhibit_D_Medical_Redacted.pdf.
The room was deathly quiet as Harold read the document. His breathing grew heavier, his eyes scanning the clinical terms, the percentages, the absolute finality of the diagnosis.
He looked up from the screen, his gaze locked onto Bradley with a mixture of confusion and growing, monstrous rage.
"Bradley," Harold said, his voice a low rumble. "When did you take this test?"
"Dad, it was just a routine check... it’s not accurate, I swear—"
"You are sterile," Harold roared, slamming the iPad onto the glass table. The glass shattered, spider-webbing across the surface. "This report says you have zero percent chance of ever fathering a child! It says the condition is genetic! It’s permanent!"
Diane gasped, her hand flying to her throat. "What? No! That's impossible! Tiffany is pregnant! We saw the ultrasound!"
Brittany’s phone buzzed in her hand. She looked down at the text message from Sarah. She read it, then looked up at Tiffany, her face turning pale.
"Tiffany..." Brittany whispered. "If Bradley is sterile... whose baby is that?"
All eyes in the room slowly turned toward Tiffany.
The sweet, innocent girl who had played the victim for two years suddenly looked like a cornered animal. The color had left her face, but she didn't cry. Instead, her jaw tightened, and she took a step toward the door, her hand instinctively dropping from her stomach.
"Bradley," Tiffany said, her voice cold and hard as steel. "It’s not what it looks like."
"Whose is it, Tiffany?" Bradley whispered, his voice cracking as he took a step toward her, his hands shaking. "Whose baby is it?!"
"Does it matter?" Tiffany sneered, her mask completely slipping. "You told me you were a billionaire, Bradley! You told me you owned the penthouse, the cars, the development projects! You told me that once you got rid of your boring wife, we would be living like royalty! But your accounts are frozen! Your lawyer says you’re bankrupt! You lied to me!"
"You cheated on me!" Bradley screamed, his veins bulging in his neck. "With who? With who?!"
"With your partner, Marcus!" Tiffany shouted back, her voice echoing through the clinic. "Because at least Marcus actually has money in his account! At least Marcus doesn't have to hide behind his daddy’s name!"

"You whore!" Diane screamed, lunging forward, but Harold grabbed her arm, holding her back as the room erupted into a violent, shouting match.
In the corner, the fertility doctor quietly backed out of the room, closing the door on the spectacular, public ruin of the Bennett family.
