Chapter 6 - The New Dawn

One year later.
The sun shone brightly over the sprawling backyard of the Buckhead mansion. The sound of joyful laughter filled the air.
Liam, now five years old, was running across the lush green grass, his cheeks rosy and his eyes sparkling with life. He was dressed in a clean linen shirt, his hair neatly trimmed, and a bright, beautiful smile on his face. He chased a golden retriever puppy, falling onto the grass and giggling uncontrollably.
Madeline watched him from the patio, a warm, peaceful smile on her face. Beside her stood a handsome, kind-eyed man—David Vance, a child psychologist who had helped Liam heal, and who had slowly, gently, earned Madeline's trust and love.
"He's doing so well, Madeline," David said softly, placing a supportive hand on her shoulder. "You saved him."
"We saved him," Madeline corrected, leaning into his touch.
That morning, she had received the final court documents. Jeffrey had been sentenced to fifteen years in prison with no chance of early parole. Noelle had received eight years, and Cynthia was serving five. Their names were ruined, and Harlan Holdings had been completely absorbed by Madeline's new, highly successful firm, Aura International.
Liam ran up the patio steps, holding a yellow dandelion. He handed it to Madeline.
"For you, Mommy," he said, his voice clear and full of love. "Because you're my superhero."

Madeline pulled her son into her arms, hugging him tightly. She felt his warm, steady heartbeat against her own. The nightmare was over. The monsters were locked away, and her son was finally safe, happy, and loved.
"I love you, my sweetheart," Madeline whispered, looking up at the beautiful, clear blue sky. "Forever and always."
