Chapter 5 - Dawn at Villa Wells

Two weeks later, the morning sun poured warmly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the grand estate overlooking Puget Sound.
The living room was filled with the soft, comforting sounds of everyday life—the gentle babbling of Emma and Ethan playing on a plush rug, the quiet turning of book pages, and the rich smell of freshly brewed coffee.
Lily sat at the breakfast island, happily drawing a picture of a large ship with crayons while a stack of pancakes sat untouched beside her plate.
The front doors opened, and Nathan walked in, carrying a small, beautifully wrapped box, followed closely by Catherine. The federal indictments had swept through the corporate board like a cleansing fire; Vance and his co-conspirators were securely locked behind federal bars, and Neurosoft had been completely restructured under joint executive leadership.
More importantly, legal adoption papers for Lily had cleared the state courts just hours prior, making her an official, protected member of the Wells family.
Catherine walked over to the island, leaning down to kiss the top of Lily’s head. "How's the artwork coming along, artist?"
Lily held up the drawing, which showed a bright blue sea, a soaring ship, and four stick figures holding hands under a golden sun. "That's us," Lily said proudly. "And the ship is bringing us home."

Nathan smiled, walking over to slip his arm around Catherine’s waist, pulling her close against his side. He looked down at his sleeping twins, then across the room at the little girl whose courage and sharp memory had bridged the impossible gap between loss and salvation.
"We're already home, Lily," Nathan said softly, resting his chin gently on Catherine's shoulder. "We're already home."
