Chapter 4 - The Exposure of the Traitors

Richard Vance stepped forward, trying to use his imposing stature to intimidate me. "Ethan, don't be a fool. You're committing corporate suicide. Look around you. The investors are laughing at you. You're ruining your father's legacy for a charity case."

"Am I, Richard?" I smiled, stepping up to the microphone on the main stage. I didn't wait for an introduction. I took the podium, looking out over the sea of billionaires, sharks, and vultures.

"Ladies and gentlemen," my voice resonated through the high-powered sound system, commanding instant silence. "Thank you for attending tonight's gala. As you know, the Cole family has always been associated with immense wealth, power, and legacy. But recently, there have been rumors regarding my capability to run Cole Industries. Rumors started by people very close to me."

I flicked my eyes directly to my mother and Richard Vance.

"They claim I am unstable because I have chosen to open my home to a hardworking mother and her beautiful daughter. They claim I am neglecting my duties." I tapped my pocket, pulling out a sleek black tablet. "So tonight, let's talk about duty. And let's talk about theft."

The screen behind the stage flickered to life. But it didn't show financial projections.

It showed a series of leaked encrypted emails and bank routing numbers.

"While my mother and Mr. Vance were planning an emergency board meeting to remove me," I continued, my voice cutting through the room like a razor, "my private security team was auditing the Cole Charitable Foundation—the very foundation hosting this event tonight. It seems that over the last eighteen months, twelve million dollars of donations meant for underprivileged children have been funneled into an offshore account in the Cayman Islands."

The crowd gasped. The journalists began typing furiously on their phones.

"And that account," I said, zooming in on the document on the giant screen, "belongs entirely to Richard Vance and my mother, Eleanor Cole. They weren't trying to save the company's image. They were trying to remove me because I ordered a forensic audit last week that would expose their multi-million-dollar embezzlement scheme."

"This is a lie!" Eleanor screamed, her face turning bright red as she lunged toward the stage. "He’s framing us! Security, shut off the power!"

But the security guards didn't move. Marcus stepped out from the shadows, accompanied by four federal agents in sharp suits.

"Eleanor Cole, Richard Vance," the lead agent said, producing an official warrant. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, grand larceny, and embezzlement of charitable funds. Please step forward."

The humiliation was absolute. In front of the entire elite of New York, the great matriarch of the Cole family and the city's top hedge fund manager were escorted out of the ballroom in handcuffs, their diamond bracelets replaced by cold steel.
