Chapter 6 - A New Dawn for the Morettis

Three weeks later.

The dark clouds that had hung over Long Island for months seemed to clear away, replaced by a bright, warm spring sun that turned the waters of the ocean into a sparkling sheet of silver.

The war with the Vescari family was over.

It had ended not with a chaotic street battle, but with surgical, absolute precision. With the combined evidence provided by Sophia’s brilliant forensic accounting skills—uncovering forty million dollars of illegal Vescari money laundering channels—and Dominic’s lethal tactical enforcement, the Vescari organization was dismantled in a single weekend. Victor Vescari and his top enforcers were either behind federal bars or permanently removed from the board.

The Moretti empire was no longer a shadow crime organization. Under Dominic’s leadership, accelerated by Sophia’s sharp financial mind, the family shifted entirely into legitimate enterprise—coastal shipping, commercial real estate, and global logistics.

The blood was gone. The shadows had receded.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the wide rear lawn of the Moretti estate was filled with the sounds of laughter and acoustic music.

A small, elegant wooden gazebo had been erected near the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean, decorated with white roses and soft linen drapes.

Dominic stood near the gazebo wearing a bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his hair neatly styled, looking handsomer than he had in his entire life. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a dark suit, acting as his best man.

Down the stone path leading from the main terrace, music began to play—a gentle, beautiful violin melody.

First came six-year-old Lily.

She wore a tiny white lace dress with a yellow ribbon tied around her waist, yellow rain boots on her feet—a stubborn requirement she had insisted upon, which Dominic had happily granted—and a basket filled with white rose petals.

She walked down the aisle with absolute pride, throwing petals onto the grass with wild enthusiasm, grinning up at her father.

Then came Sophia.

Dominic’s breath caught in his throat—just as it had three weeks ago in his foyer.

Sophia looked breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder ivory silk gown that flowed around her like water, her dark hair styled in loose curls with white flowers woven through the strands. In her hands, she carried a simple bouquet of white peonies.

As she reached the gazebo, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hands in his.

"You look beautiful," he whispered softly, his gray eyes shining with unspeakable love.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Boss," Sophia teased softly, her brown eyes radiant with happiness.

The ceremony was short, intimate, and attended only by those who truly mattered—a few loyal family members, Marco, Mrs. Higgins, and little Lily, who stood between her parents holding her flattened stuffed rabbit.

When the minister pronounced them husband and wife, Dominic pulled Sophia into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed a deep, passionate kiss against her lips.

The small crowd cheered and clapped warmly.

Lily tugged on Dominic’s tuxedo jacket. "Daddy! Is it time for cake now?"

Dominic laughed—a deep, booming, joyous laugh that echoed across the ocean cliffs. He reached down and scooped his daughter up into his left arm, while wrapping his right arm tightly around his wife's waist.

"Yes, Lily," Dominic smiled, kissing his daughter’s cheek, then looking down at Sophia with absolute, unshakable conviction. "It's time for cake. And it's time to live happily ever after."

As the sun began to set over Long Island, casting a warm, golden glow across the estate, Dominic Moretti stood on the terrace with his wife and daughter.

The former crime boss who had once ruled through fear and shadows had finally found his true empire—not built on blood or money, but built on love, forgiveness, and the five words of a tiny girl in yellow rain boots who had taught him how to breathe again.
