Chapter 6 - The True Heir

Dominic immediately stepped in front of me, his hand reaching for his sidearm, but three laser sights instantly painted red dots across his chest.

"I wouldn't recommend that, Dominic," Vance said pleasantly, stepping forward until he was ten feet away from us. "My men are under strict orders to shoot you the moment your fingers touch a holster. Though I must admit, bringing the girl here was remarkably generous of you."

Professor Thorne stepped toward the ancient metal door, his hands trembling with academic greed as he ran a digital sensor along the dark basalt wall.

"Fascinating!" Thorne gasped, his voice trembling. "The electromagnetic readings are off the charts! This metal isn't terrestrial! It contains isotopes that don't exist in our periodic table!"

"Step away from the door, Aris," Vance commanded flatly. He looked at me, extending a gloved hand. "Olivia. Step forward. Bring the journal."

I stood my ground, clutching the leather book against my chest. "You killed my father."

Vance’s smile faded slightly, replaced by a quiet, calculating sincerity. "I did not set that fire, Olivia. William was my friend. He was a brilliant man, but he was gripped by paranoid delusions. He believed humanity wasn't ready for the technology sealed behind this door. He chose to destroy his own research—and his life—rather than share it with the world."

"He was protecting us from you!" I yelled, my voice echoing loudly off the ancient stone walls.

"I am going to bring unlimited, wireless clean energy to eight billion people, child," Vance said firmly. "I am going to eliminate fossil fuels, power entire nations for free, and elevate human civilization to its next stage. Your father wanted to leave humanity in the dark. Now... give me the final key sequence, or Mr. Russo dies right here on this stone floor."

One of the mercenaries pressed the cold steel barrel of his rifle directly against Dominic’s temple.

"Don't do it, Olivia!" Dominic growled, his eyes fierce. "Let him shoot! Don't open that door for him!"

My mind raced frantically. I looked at Vance. I looked at the armed men. Then I looked at the massive iridescent metal door behind me.

‘The seal cannot be opened by force, nor by the blood of the conqueror,’ the translation echoed in my head. ‘It will open only when the three keys carved from the falling star are returned to the heart of the vault by the daughter of the Weaver.’

My father hadn't just translated the journal. He had designed the vault’s security system twenty years ago using ancient Pre-Deluge bio-linguistic technology!

The door didn't require three physical keys.

The three "keys" were: the linguistic cipher (the journal), the physical key (the iron cylinder), and... the genetic code of the Weaver’s bloodline!

"Alright," I said softly, stepping past Dominic. "I'll open it."

"Olivia, NO!" Dominic shouted, but a guard struck him across the back of his leg, forcing him to his knees.

Vance’s eyes lit up with triumphant ambition. "Wise choice, my dear. Show us the glory of your father's work."

I walked slowly toward the massive circular plate in the center of the ancient door.

I placed the ancient journal on a small stone ledge beneath the seal. Then, I held the black iron cylinder in my right hand and pressed it into the central socket of the circular plate.

CLICK.

The central plate began to glow with a brilliant, pulsing blue light. A soft, melodic hum resonated through the subterranean chamber, making the stone floor beneath our feet vibrate with immense power.

In the center of the plate, a small, razor-thin needle extended from the metal surface.

"It requires the Weaver's blood," I said, looking back at Vance.

"Proceed," Vance commanded, his voice shaking with intense excitement.

I didn't hesitate. I pressed my right thumb firmly against the needle.

A sharp prick pierced my skin. A single drop of my blood landed directly onto the glowing blue sensor.

BEEP-BEEP-BEEP.

The blue light instantly turned from soft blue to a blinding, fiery crimson!

The melodic hum turned into a deafening, metallic screech that echoed through the entire cavern! Ancient symbols flashed rapidly across the surface of the massive metal door, spinning in complex, chaotic patterns.

Professor Thorne looked at his tablet and screamed in terror. "VANCE! STOP HER! The power levels are spiking exponentially! The system is initiating an overload sequence!"

"What did you do?!" Vance roared, drawing his own pistol and aiming it at me.

I stood before the glowing red door, turning around to face Vance with a calm, cold smile.

"My father didn't just build a lock, Vance," I said, my voice ringing clear and strong through the roaring chamber. "He built a trap. The journal line I read at the restaurant wasn't a warning for the keeper. It was an automated defense protocol!"

‘If an unauthorized bloodline attempts to force the seal using stolen keys, the vault permanently purges its contents and collapses the entrance shaft!’

CRACK-CRACK-CRACK!

Massive fissures ripped through the granite ceiling above us! Huge stone boulders began crashing down into the circular chamber, shattering the stone floor and crushing the mercenaries' equipment!

"RETREAT! GET TO THE STAIRS!" Vance shrieked, dropping his pistol in sheer panic as he turned and ran toward the spiraling staircase, his mercenaries abandoning their positions to flee for their lives.

"OLIVIA!" Dominic yelled, breaking free from his captors and running through the falling debris toward me.

He grabbed my arm, wrapping his heavy body over me as a massive stone block crashed down right where we had been standing three seconds ago!

"THIS WAY!" I screamed, pulling Dominic toward a small, narrow escape alcove hidden behind the main door archway—a secret maintenance passage my father had marked in faint red ink on the very last page of the journal!

We dove into the narrow stone crevice just as a massive cave-in sealed the main chamber in thousands of tons of fallen granite!
