Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

One year later.
The sun rose over the shimmering waters of Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant golden glow over the Romano estate. The gardens were filled with hundreds of white lilies, soft orchids, and elegant silk ribbons blowing gently in the morning breeze.
Music played softly from a live string quartet on the upper terrace.
I stood in front of the full-length mirror in the bride's suite, smoothing down the lace train of my ivory wedding gown. The dress was a masterpiece—timeless, elegant, and regal, fitting like a second skin.
A knock sounded at the door, and Giulia, the head housekeeper, stepped inside, tears glistening in her kind old eyes.
"You look breathtaking, Mrs. Romano," she whispered, drying her eyes with a lace handkerchief.
"Not quite yet, Giulia," I smiled, turning around. "Five more minutes."
She brought in a small stroller wrapped in white satin. Sitting inside was one-and-a-half-year-old Leo, looking sharp and handsome in a tiny black tuxedo with a red bow tie. He let out a cheerful squeal when he saw me, reaching out his small arms.
"Hey, my little ring bearer," I laughed, picking him up carefully so as not to wrinkle my dress. He pressed his soft cheek against mine, smelling of sweet baby lotion.
"It's time, my child," Giulia said softly.
I held Leo tightly, took a deep, steadying breath, and walked out toward the grand garden courtyard.
The guest area was filled with hundreds of people—not just the powerful families of the Outfit who now looked up to Alessio with absolute respect, but also my colleagues from the hospital, my family, and friends who had come to see the miracle of this day.
At the end of the long white aisle, standing under an archway of white roses, was Alessio.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking so impossibly handsome and powerful that my breath caught in my throat. Beside him stood Dominic as his best man, looking proud and regal in his formal suit.
As the wedding march echoed through the estate, I stepped onto the aisle, walking slowly toward the man who had once pressed a loaded gun to my temple in the middle of a frantic storm—and had ended up giving me a lifetime of unconditional love, strength, and devotion.
Alessio’s dark eyes never left mine as I approached. A single, rare tear glistened in the corner of his eye, reflecting the bright morning light.
When I reached the altar, I handed Leo to Dominic, and Alessio reached out, taking both of my hands in his. His touch was warm, solid, and safe—my home in the middle of any storm.
"You look like an angel," he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.
"I'm your angel," I replied softly, smiling through my own tears. "And you're my protector."
The priest stepped forward, his voice echoing across the quiet, sunlit garden.
"We are gathered here today to unite two lives, bound not by circumstance, but by unbreakable devotion, courage, and love. Do you, Alessio Romano, take Claire to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in peace and in war, for as long as you both shall live?"
Alessio looked deep into my eyes, his grip tightening gently on my hands.
"I do," he declared, his voice ringing out strong, proud, and clear across the entire estate. "With all my heart and my soul."
"And do you, Claire, take Alessio to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do," I answered without a single second of hesitation. "Forever."
"By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest smiled. "You may kiss the bride."
Alessio didn't wait. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me back with passionate grace as he pressed his lips to mine in a long, powerful, breathtaking kiss that sealed our destiny.

The crowd erupted into resounding applause and joyful cheers. Flower petals rained down on us as we stood back up, laughing and holding each other close. Alessio picked up Leo with one arm and wrapped his other arm around my waist, pulling us both tight against his heart.
We walked back up the white aisle together as a complete, unbroken family, leaving behind the dark shadows of the past and stepping forward hand-in-hand into a bright, victorious new dawn.
