Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

A year to the day after Marisol first walked through the front doors of the Mercer estate, the house was filled with warmth, music, and celebration. It wasn't an anniversary of fear or survival—it was a celebration of family.

A small, elegant dinner party had been set up in the courtyard. Fairy lights twinkled overhead in the sprawling oak trees, and the soft strumming of an acoustic guitar drifted through the evening air.

Leo, now a year older and brimming with newfound confidence, stood up on a small wooden chair, tapping his glass with a spoon to get everyone's attention. The handful of close, trusted friends and staff members turned to look at him.

"I just want to say something," Leo announced proudly, looking directly at his father and Marisol. "For a long time, I thought the dark was going to win. I thought we were alone. But Dad showed us how to fight, and Marisol showed us how to not be afraid anymore."

Julian felt a lump form in his throat. He reached across the table, taking Marisol’s hand in his, intertwining their fingers tightly.

Leo raised his glass of sparkling cider. "To our family. And to the woman who brought the light back."

"To family," everyone echoed warmly.

Later that night, after the guests had left and the boys were fast asleep in their beds—with the hallway light left on just a crack, out of habit rather than fear—Julian and Marisol stood out on the balcony overlooking the sprawling, peaceful estate.

The night breeze was cool and gentle. Marisol leaned against the stone railing, looking up at the starlit sky. Julian stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.

"Penny for your thoughts," Julian murmured against her neck.

Marisol tilted her head back, smiling softly as she looked into his eyes. "I was just thinking about the day we met. You told me to pack my bags and get out."

Julian groaned playfully, burying his face in her hair. "Don't remind me. I was an arrogant fool."

"The biggest fool on the East Coast," Marisol laughed, turning around in his embrace and wrapping her arms around his neck. "And yet, here we are."

"Here we are," Julian repeated softly.

He leaned down, kissing her tenderly beneath the quiet glow of the New York stars. The shadows of the past were gone, washed away by forgiveness, fierce protection, and unconditional love. For the man the world once called ruthless, he had finally won the only battle that truly mattered—he had saved his family, and in doing so, he had finally found his home.
