Thirty minutes before the five most feared Mafia dons on the East Coast arrived to sign a historic peace agreement

, my six-year-old daughter walked straight up to Damiano Moretti—the most powerful Mafia boss in New York—and gently tugged on his sleeve.

“Sir,” Emma whispered, clutching her worn rag doll, “you need to look under your desk.”

Every guard in the corridor froze.

I nearly dropped the tray of champagne glasses in my hands.

Emma was supposed to stay hidden in the staff room while I worked. Children were never allowed anywhere near Damiano’s private office, especially before a meeting protected by dozens of armed men.

I hurried toward her.

“Mr. Moretti, I’m so sorry. Her babysitter canceled, and I only looked away for a second.”

Damiano raised one hand, stopping me before I could reach Emma.

He lowered himself until he was eye level with her.

“What did you see?”

“A blinking red light.”

The hallway suddenly felt colder.

Emma tightened her grip on his sleeve.

“A man put it there. The shiny lady told him not to touch the button after he finished.”

Damiano’s expression never changed.

That calm frightened me far more than anger ever could.

“Which man?” he asked quietly.

“The one with the sad eyes.”

“Did he notice you?”

Emma shook her head.

“No... but the lady did.”

My heartbeat pounded in my ears.

“What did she say to you?”

Emma hugged her doll tightly.

“She said little girls who tell secrets make their mommies lose their homes.”

Damiano slowly stood.

“Clear this entire floor,” he ordered.

Within seconds, the mansion transformed. Staff disappeared through hidden corridors. Security teams sealed every entrance without making a sound.

He looked directly at me.

“Sophia, take Emma to the west parlor. Lock the door. Open it for no one except me.”

“What’s happening?”

His eyes shifted toward his office.

“Someone just tried to murder every man sitting at that table tonight.”

He walked into the study alone and quietly closed the door behind him
