Chapter 6 - THE MAFIA KING'S BRIDE

One year later.

Summer had come to the hills overlooking Lake Michigan, turning the estate's private gardens into a paradise of bright green lawns, blooming white roses, and shimmering blue fountains.

The Moretti estate had been completely rebuilt. The bullet holes were gone, replaced by reinforced Italian limestone and bulletproof glass framed in gold leaf. The Chicago Outfit was no more—Don Carmine's empire had been completely dissolved and absorbed by Dante within months of the failed night attack, establishing total, undisputed peace across the entire Midwest region.

Today, the grand courtyard was filled with three hundred guests in black-tie attire. High-ranking syndicate bosses from New York, union leaders, politicians, and local community figures sat quietly in white wooden chairs lining a long carpet covered in fresh white rose petals.

Standing at the altar in front of a massive archway of blooming jasmine was Dante Moretti.

He wore a custom black velvet tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, looking extraordinarily handsome, commanding, and serene. Beside him stood Enzo, fully recovered, wearing a crisp suit with a white rose on his lapel.

The string quartet began to play a slow, breathtaking rendition of a traditional Italian love song.

The heavy oak doors of the mansion swung open.

Walking down the aisle, holding small baskets of rose petals, were five-year-old Mia and Bella. They wore matching white lace flower-girl dresses with pink sashes, their dark curls bouncing happily as they tossed petals onto the carpet, giggling and waving at their father.

And then came the bride.

Sarah Jenkins walked out onto the sunlit patio, leaning gently on the arm of her brother, Toby—who was now neatly dressed in a grey suit, fully reformed, and managing one of Dante's legitimate shipping logistics firms on the North Side.

Sarah was breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder white silk gown with a long lace train that flowed behind her like a waterfall. Around her neck, sparkling brilliant green in the summer sun, sat the Gordano emerald necklace.

Dante’s breath caught in his throat. His gray eyes filled with tears of pure, unadulterated happiness as he watched her walk toward him.

When Toby reached the altar, he gently handed Sarah's hand over to Dante, giving the powerful crime lord a deep, respectful nod.

Dante took Sarah’s soft hand in his, leaning in to whisper, "You are the most beautiful sight in this world, Mrs. Moretti."

"I'm not Mrs. Moretti yet," Sarah teased softly, her brown eyes shining with endless love.

"You have been since the night you walked into my nursery," Dante replied softly.

The elderly Italian priest stepped forward, raising his hands to bless the couple.

"Do you, Dante Moretti," the priest asked, his voice echoing over the quiet courtyard, "take Sarah Jenkins to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

Dante looked deep into Sarah's eyes, holding her hand with a strength that promised a lifetime of absolute protection.

"I do," Dante said, his voice clear, strong, and unwavering.

"And do you, Sarah Jenkins," the priest continued, "take Dante Moretti to be your lawful wedded husband, to love, honor, and cherish, through all the days of your life?"

Sarah smiled, a single tear of joy trickling down her cheek. "I do."

"By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a warm smile. "Son, kiss your bride."

Dante didn't wait. He pulled Sarah into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed a deep, passionate, life-giving kiss to her lips.

The entire crowd erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and standing ovations. Mia and Bella ran forward, wrapping their small arms around their parents' legs, laughing happily under the shower of white rose petals.

Later that evening, as the sun set over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in glorious shades of orange, purple, and gold, a grand reception took place in the glass pavilion.

Dante stood on the outdoor terrace, holding a glass of champagne, watching Sarah dance with Mia and Bella in the center of the ballroom. The girls were laughing hysterically as Sarah spun them around, their small faces glowing with health, joy, and absolute security.

Arthur walked up beside Dante, setting a tray of fresh appetizers on the small table.

"A magnificent night, sir," Arthur said, his old eyes gleaming with genuine warmth. "I haven't seen this house so full of light in twenty years."

Dante smiled, taking a sip of his champagne. "Neither have I, Arthur. Neither have I."

Sarah left the girls with Toby on the dance floor and walked out onto the terrace, slipping her arm through Dante's, resting her head against his broad shoulder as they looked out at the peaceful lake together.

"What are you thinking about, my dark lord?" Sarah teased gently, placing a hand over his married ring finger.

Dante looked down at her, then at his two daughters who were now running toward them, giggling and holding two small green crayons and a fresh sheet of paper.

"I was thinking about the night you came here," Dante whispered, pulling her close into his side, wrapping his arms around his entire world. "You walked into a room full of monsters, turned off the lights, and sang a song that saved my life."

Rosie... no, Mia and Bella ran up, holding up the drawing for both of them to see. It showed four figures standing hand-in-hand under a giant yellow sun, with a purple dragon flying peacefully above a grand house.

"Look, Daddy!" Bella squeaked happily. "It's our family!"

Dante leaned down, picking both of his daughters up in his arms, while Sarah leaned against his side, her head on his chest.

"Yes, it is, sweetie," Dante smiled, his heart overflowing with a peace he knew would last forever. "It’s our family. And no one is ever eating—or sleeping—alone again."
